Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Gel Button" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an early-2000s glossy desktop application window. Candy-colored gel, pinstripes, soft shadows and a polished reflection, but laid out with the restraint of a real product.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Desktop behind the window: #DFE5EC with the pinstripe pattern at 60% opacity.
- Pinstripes: a repeating 4px tall pattern, a 2px band of #EEF2F7 over 2px of white, filling the window background.
- Title bar: a glossy vertical gradient from white (95% opacity) to #E9EEF4 at 50%, a hard step to #DCE3EC at 52%, ending #E6EBF1. Toolbar strip: vertical gradient #D6E8FA to #E8ECF1 with a 1px #B3BFCD bottom line.
- Window border: 1px #9FACBC, 14px radius, drop shadow 0 6px 18px #2A3A50 at 28%.
- Series 1: sky gel #2F8FE8 (gel gradient #A9D4FA to #4FA3EE, step at 52% to #2F8FE8, back to #4FA3EE; outline #1D6DB8). Series 2: lime gel #7AC943 (gradient #D2F0B4 to #95D568, step to #7AC943; outline #58A02A). More series: tangerine #F29A2E, then grape #8E6BD8, each with the same gel treatment.
- Plot panel: white with a 1px #C3CEDB border and 12px radius. Gridlines #E3E9F0, baseline #B8C4D2.
- Text: title #1E2A38, subtitle #66717F, axis labels #7A8594, capsule labels #34414F.
- Candy window dots: red gel #E2453D, amber gel #EFAA1C, green gel #55B22F.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Open Sans 600: title 23px (a full sentence stating the finding), window title 13px centered in the title bar in #4B5768.
- Arimo: subtitle 14px, capsule legend labels 13px bold, axis tick labels 11px, callout 13px bold plus 12px regular, source 11px.

Layout:
- Window inset 36px left and right, 22px top. Title bar 34px tall with three 7px-radius candy dots at the top left (22px apart), each with a white elliptical highlight on its upper half.
- Toolbar strip 46px tall under the title bar, holding the legend as glossy capsules on the left and a segmented range control (Days / Weeks / Months, the active segment in sky gel with white bold text) on the right.
- Title at y 144 and subtitle at y 168, 60px from the left. Plot panel from y 184 to 472, 60px side inset; plot area inside it with y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot.
- Beneath the panel, a reflection: the panel, gridlines, lines and markers mirrored vertically about the panel's bottom edge, masked by a gradient from 60% to 0 over 66px.
- Source bottom left inside the window, a small item count bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 1px #E3E9F0; no axis lines except the #B8C4D2 baseline. Compact labels (10k) and sparse x labels (Wk 1, Wk 13...).

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth monotone lines, 3.5px, round caps and joins, each with a 5px underlay in its outline color at 35% opacity and a 1px white highlight stroke at 55% shifted 1px up. Pill-shaped gel markers (18 x 11px, fully rounded) every few points: gel gradient fill, 1px outline, and a white specular capsule (12 x 4px, 78% opacity) across the upper half.
- Bar chart: columns with 6px top radius in the same gel gradients, 1px outline in the darker color, and a white specular strip (inset 3px, 38% of the bar width tall at the top, 70% opacity); the reflection sits under the baseline exactly as for lines.
- Direct value labels at the line ends in Arimo 13px bold, in darkened series colors (#4E8F24 for lime, #1D6DB8 for blue).

Labels and annotation:
- One glossy callout capsule (10px radius, white to #E2E8EF gloss, 1px #A3B1C2, soft shadow 0 1.5px 2.4px) naming the key moment, connected by a 1.2px #8FA3B8 leader, with a 3/3 dashed #8FA3B8 drop line to the baseline.
- Legend capsules: 28px tall pills with the same gloss, each holding a gel pill swatch and a bold label.

Avoid: flat design, dark backgrounds, heavy drop shadows on the data, more than two glossy accents per mark, and em dashes.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the gel highlights sit on the upper half of every marker, the reflection fades out before the source line, and the pinstripes stay faint enough that the plot panel reads as the brightest surface.
