Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Gauge Blocks" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a precision metrology bench. Brushed gunmetal plate, bars machined as polished steel gauge blocks with beveled edges and laser-etched values, a muted green tolerance band and amber marks only where a part fails. Heavy, exact and industrial.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Gunmetal: #1C2024 background, overlaid with a brushed texture (fractal noise, baseFrequency 0.003 horizontally and 0.55 vertically, 2 octaves, white at 9% alpha) and a soft white radial highlight at 7% from the top left.
- Polished steel: #D8DDE2 as the center of the block gradient and for the nominal zero line.
- Steel shadow: #7D858D for the block gradient's left edge. The full left-to-right gradient: #7D858D 0%, #B9C0C6 18%, #D8DDE2 42%, #F1F3F5 55%, #AEB5BC 72%, #6B737B 100%.
- Tolerance green: #6F9A7A for the tolerance band (20% fill, 1.2px dashed 6 4 limit lines) and its label.
- Out-of-spec amber: #E0A33B for the 5px cap at the far end of any out-of-tolerance block and its "OUT" tag.
- Text #E6E9EC; secondary text #9EA6AE; faint gridlines white at 7%.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Rajdhani throughout. Eyebrow 600 13px uppercase with 3px letter-spacing in #9EA6AE. Title 700 36px #E6E9EC stating the finding. Subtitle 500 17px #9EA6AE. Legend 600 14px. Axis labels 600 15px with signed values (+5, true minus for negatives). Block values 700 17px. Part labels 600 13.5px. Tags 700 12-13px with 1.5px letter-spacing.
- Rajdhani has no micro sign: set the µ of µm in Roboto Condensed at the same weight.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow, title and subtitle stacked at top left, a one-line legend below (steel swatch, green band swatch, amber-capped swatch).
- The plot spans about 750 x 270 px, symmetric around zero. Right of the plot, labels for the band ("TOL" and the limit) and "NOM" at the zero line.
- Part labels in a row below the plot. A faint footer rule, "Source: illustrative data" at left and an inspection line in spaced uppercase at right.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines. Faint horizontal gridlines at each labeled step, a 1.5px #D8DDE2 nominal zero line drawn over the block roots, and the green tolerance band spanning the full plot width.

Marks:
- Bar chart: diverging blocks from zero, positive up and negative down, 40px wide with 2px corner radius. Each block: the steel gradient fill; a vertical sheen overlay (white 22% at top to clear at middle to black 18% at bottom); a 1px inner bevel line inset 3px in white at 35%; a 1px #4A5057 outer edge; a 1px white 70% highlight along the top; and a 3px offset drop shadow in black at 35%. Out-of-tolerance blocks get the amber cap on their far end and an "OUT" tag beyond it.
- Values are laser-etched on the block face (700 17px in #2B3137 with a white 55% copy 0.9px below to fake the engraving) when the block is at least 34px long; otherwise the value sits just past the block end in #E6E9EC, or #E0A33B if it fails.
- Line chart: a 3px polished steel line using the same gradient on a 1px #4A5057 casing, points as small beveled square blocks (10px), the tolerance band behind it and amber caps on points outside the band.

Avoid: bright colors, glossy chrome reflections beyond the gradient, rounded pill bars, colored bars for passing parts, and heavy textures that fight the text.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the count of out-of-tolerance parts in the title matches the amber caps, the tolerance band sits exactly at the limits, the etched values are readable on every block, and the brushed texture stays subtle at thumbnail size.
