Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Gala Season" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the season report of a ballet company printed for patrons. Midnight blue, champagne and ivory, a high-contrast didone title and the quiet glow of a theatre at night.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0D1330, with a radial vignette lifting the upper middle to #16204A (center at 50% x, 35% y, radius 80%).
- Main series, markers, eyebrow and highlights: #EAD7A4 (pale champagne).
- Reference band: #8E9AD6 at 16% opacity (20% for the legend swatch).
- Title and legend text: #F4EEDF (ivory). Secondary text: #8A91B4. Gridlines: #1F2750; the capacity or limit line #4A5384 dotted (1 on, 4 off). Axis line and ticks: #39416E. Footer rule #232B57, footer text #5E6591.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Bodoni Moda 500 for the title (33px, ivory, stating the finding) and event labels (14px italic, champagne).
- Jost for everything else: eyebrow 12px 500 uppercase with 3.2px letter-spacing in champagne; subtitle 15px #8A91B4; legend 13px ivory; y labels 12.5px with thousands separators; month labels 12px 500 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing; reference-line label 10.5px 500 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing; footer 12px.

Layout:
- Eyebrow at y 58, title at y 104, subtitle at y 134, legend at y 168, all at x 64. Plot from x 96 to 890 and y 214 to 470. A 1px footer rule at y 542 with source at left and a note at right at y 566.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines 1px #1F2750 at round values; the limit (capacity) line dotted in #4A5384 with a small caps label placed in open space above it.
- A separate 1px #39416E axis line 8px below the plot with a 3px tick under every observation. Group labels (months) centered under their observations, divided by 18px #2B335E vertical rules.
- Qualifying observations (sold out) get a 14px, 2.2px champagne underline on that axis line.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 1.8px champagne line with straight segments and a glow (Gaussian blur stdDeviation 3.5 merged under the line), r 2 dots filled #0D1330 with a 1px champagne ring. Key events are 14px filled champagne diamonds with a 1.2px #0D1330 outline, a 10px 0.8px champagne tick above and an italic Bodoni label (first label left-aligned, last right-aligned). Last year's range is a smooth translucent #8E9AD6 band behind the line.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered champagne columns (about 40% of the band) at 85% opacity with the same soft glow, key events topped by a champagne diamond and italic label, last year's range as a translucent #8E9AD6 floating range bar behind each column, and the champagne underline on the axis under qualifying bars.

Avoid: saturated blues, pure white, more than one warm color, heavy gridlines, rounded fonts and drop shadows.

When you're done, render the chart and check that event labels never collide with the limit label or each other, that the band stays behind the line, the glow is not clipped, and the count in the title matches the underlines on the axis.
