Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Futurist" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an early twentieth century Futurist poster about machines and velocity. Dynamic diagonals, heavy condensed type, one aggressive red, and the sense that the data is racing off the page.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Paper: #F2EFE8 (off-white) for the canvas; the same value also casings and knocks out marks where they cross the red wedge.
- Red: #D7261E for the wedge, the title accent bar, the main series and its labels.
- Black: #111111 for the title, the comparison series, axis and tick labels.
- Source line: #8A857B.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Anton for the title (58px uppercase, black, stating the finding, for example "AVERAGE SPEED UP 4.6×") and for big value figures (40 to 48px at line ends, 22 to 26px at the start).
- Barlow Condensed for everything else: subtitle 17px 600 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; axis labels 17 to 21px 700; small labels ("RECORD RUN", "AVERAGE") 15px 700 with 1.5px letter-spacing; source 13px 600 uppercase in #8A857B.

Layout:
- The title block is rotated -6 degrees around its left end: a 10 x 80 px red bar at x 48, the title beside it, the subtitle (place, measure, unit, period) 30px below. Keep the rotated title fully inside the canvas.
- A large red wedge sits behind the plot: a triangle whose point is inside the plot near the lower left (about x 250, y 500) and which opens to the full right edge (from about y 214 to y 446). It must not reach the x-axis.
- A 2px black counter-diagonal line in the bottom right corner for tension.
- Plot roughly x 92 to 770, y 262 to 508, leaving the right 190px for speed lines.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines. A 3px black baseline with 10px 3px-wide black ticks and bold year labels every 25 years. Y values as bold condensed figures with short 2px black dashes left of the plot.

Marks:
- Line chart: the main series is a thick 7px red line with round joins, cased by a 13px off-white stroke underneath so it stays visible across the red wedge; the comparison series is a thin 1.8px black line. Straight segments, no markers except the endpoints (an off-white-ringed red dot r 7 and a black 8px square). From each endpoint, five horizontal speed lines stream off the right edge of the canvas at offsets of 0, plus or minus 7 to 10 and plus or minus 14 to 19 px, starting 14 to 76 px after the point (black 0.6 to 1.4px for the black series, off-white 1 to 3px for the red series inside the wedge). Label the latest values large in Anton (the one inside the wedge in off-white), with a small uppercase label to their left.
- Bar chart: bars skewed 12 degrees (like italic motion), the key bar red and the rest black, with off-white knock-out outlines where they cross the wedge; three speed lines trail from the tallest bar to the right edge; values in Anton above each bar.

Avoid: gradients, rounded shapes, gridlines, serif type, soft colors, more than one accent color, and letting the tilted title or wedge cover data labels.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the title is fully on canvas, the red line reads clearly both on and off the wedge, the big numbers do not collide with lines or small labels, and the ratio in the title matches the data.
