Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Furnace Heat" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a glass studio's firing log read at night beside the glory hole. Near black, with a molten line that glows hottest at its peaks and a thin cool line for anything that runs colder.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #0C0A09.
- Hot series: a vertical gradient mapped to values, #FF5A1F (molten orange) at the low end of its range, #FF9A2E at 60%, #FFD84A (fining yellow) at the peak.
- Cool series: #5AB4FF, with its annotation text in #9CCBF2.
- Title and strong text: #F4EDE6. Secondary text: #8E8278. Box label detail: #CFC3B7. Gridlines: #231E1B. Baseline: #4A423C. Event ticks: #FFFFFF.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Arvo 700, 29px, #F4EDE6 for the title, stating the finding.
- Oswald for everything else: eyebrow 13px 500 uppercase, 2.6px letter-spacing, #FF5A1F; subtitle 16px 300 #8E8278; axis labels 13px 400 #8E8278; direct series labels 15px 600 (hot series in #FF8A2A, cool in #5AB4FF); annotations 13px; box heading 12px 600 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; event label 12px 500 with 1px letter-spacing in white; source 12.5px 300.

Layout:
- 60px margins, header in the top 130px. Plot from about x 104 to 866 and y 170 to 486, leaving room on the right for direct labels.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines 1px #231E1B at round values, labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot. A 1.2px #4A423C baseline.
- Time labels 44px below the baseline, leaving a band just under the axis for event ticks.
- Discrete events (batch charges, deliveries, restarts) are short white ticks, 2px wide and 14px tall with round caps, starting 4px below the baseline, with one small white label beside the last tick.

Marks:
- Line chart: the hot series as a monotone smooth 3.5px line with the value gradient and a glow (Gaussian blur 6 merged under the line). Behind the highest peak a radial halo about 240 x 120px (#FFB23E at 50% center, #FF6A1F at 16% midway, transparent edge), and smaller 84 x 52px halos at 80% behind secondary peaks. The peak point is a 4.5px #FFF3C4 dot with a soft glow, labeled above in 13px 500 #FFD84A. The cool series is a 1.8px #5AB4FF line with a faint 2.5 blur glow. Label both series at their right ends.
- Bar chart: bars with the same value gradient running up each bar (orange at the base, yellow at the tallest value), square corners, a 6px glow behind the tallest bars only, and value labels in Oswald 13px 500 above. A cool comparison bar set is 1.5px #5AB4FF outlines with no fill.

Labels and annotation:
- Target or working ranges are a dashed box: fill #FFD84A at 9%, 1.2px #E8DCCD stroke at 85% dashed 5 on 3, spanning the range in both time and value, with an uppercase heading and a detail line above its top left corner.

Avoid: flame clip art, rainbow gradients, thick glows that blur the data, a second y axis, and pure white text for body copy.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the glow is not clipped anywhere, the peak really is the brightest point, the event ticks align to their times, and the values in the title and range box match the data.
