Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Floor Stack" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an architect's massing study. Each bar is a tower in section, built floor by floor, standing on a hatched plaza with a ground line. Muted, material building-use colors on white.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #FFFFFF.
- Uses (bottom to top): retail sand #E2CB9C, community sage #7A9B6C, office slate #5A6B7B, residential terracotta #BF6549.
- Ink for headings, counts and names: #23262A. Secondary text and leaders: #6C7076. Ground line and roof parapet: #3A3D42. Plaza hatch: #B9B4AA.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Archivo: title 700, 28px, -0.4px letter-spacing, stating the finding; subtitle 400 15px #6C7076; legend 500 13px; category names 600 14px centered under each tower; source 12px.
- Archivo Narrow: floor counts above towers 700 22px; the unit word "floors" 500 14px #6C7076 next to the tallest count only; direct use labels 600 14px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Title at y 64, subtitle at y 92, and a one-line legend at y 112 to 122 (14 x 10 swatches, top use first).
- Ground line at about y 500 across the full width, towers standing on it, category names 38px below the ground.
- Source line at the bottom left.

Axes and grid:
- No y-axis, no gridlines: the floor count above each tower is the value. The floors are the scale.
- Ground: a 2px #3A3D42 line, a 12px strip of 45-degree hatching below it (7px pitch, 1.2px #B9B4AA lines), closed by a 0.8px #B9B4AA line.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked vertical bars 72px wide on a 150px pitch, built from one segment per unit (per floor), each segment 10.4px tall with a 1.4px white gap, so every tower reads as a section drawing. Stack order is fixed bottom to top: retail, community, office, residential. Cap each tower with a 2px #3A3D42 parapet 2px wider than the tower each side and a small 14 x 7 outlined plant box at the right end of the roof. Count label centered 18px above the roof. Use labels sit on the right of the rightmost tower, each connected to the middle of its segment run by a 0.8px #6C7076 elbow leader, pushed apart so labels are at least 20px apart ("Residential 24", "Office 4").
- Line chart: step lines (horizontal then vertical) in the use colors at 2.5px, with each step drawn as short stacked 10px floor ticks where the value rises, standing on the same hatched ground line; end labels in Archivo Narrow 600 14px in the series color, and the latest value as a large Archivo Narrow count above the last point.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, 3D perspective, drop shadows, bright or saturated colors, a y-axis, and floor segments without the white hairline gaps.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every floor segment has a visible white gap, stack order is the same in every tower, counts and totals in the title add up, and the direct use labels on the last tower don't collide.
