Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Flight Strips" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an air traffic controller's flight strip board. A dark console with racks of printed paper strips in colored holders, each strip packed with small fields of monospaced print, plus a red "now" line and an amber flag on anything in conflict.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Console: #1A1F24 (slate). Rack slots #0F1317 (55% opacity for the row, solid for the label block), rack edge #39434D, bay header bars #262D34, hour lines #2C343C.
- Strip holders by category: #E9D9A6 (arrival buff), #A9C9E8 (departure blue), #E8A9B8 (military pink), each with a darker 14px left edge: #B9A66A, #6F97BF, #B8707F.
- Strip print: #111111. Console text #E8ECEF, secondary #8C98A3.
- Now line: #FF4A3D. Conflict: #FFB020 (amber).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Barlow Condensed for the title (600 34px #E8ECEF, stating the finding), bay headers (700 16px, 2px letter-spacing, with a 500 15px #8C98A3 sub-label), row labels ("STAND" 500 13px and the number 700 22px) and legend text (600 14px).
- B612 Mono for everything printed on strips and all times: callsign or item name 700 11.5px, secondary code 10px right-aligned, start–end times 9.5px ("0610–0725"), the category letter 700 10px on the colored edge, axis times 12px #8C98A3, subtitle 12px uppercase.
- B612 Mono sits periods, commas and colons at the left of a full-width cell, so "11.2" reads as "11. 2" and "4:00" as "4: 00". Any label containing a period, comma, colon or semicolon (decimals, clock times, "Source: ...") is set in proportional B612 from the same family, same size, weight and color; labels without that punctuation stay in B612 Mono.

Layout:
- Title at y 62 from x 40; subtitle at y 90; a legend of three small strip chips (26 x 16px with their edge color and letter) at the top right.
- Time axis labels across the top at y 132; 1px hour lines run down through the board.
- Rows are rack slots 38px tall on a 40px pitch; a label block at the left (x 40 to 124) with a 4px rack edge. Group rows under bay header bars 24px tall.
- Source bottom left in 11px mono; a conflict key (amber outlined square) bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- No y axis beyond the rack labels. No horizontal gridlines: the rack slots are the grid.
- A 2px red now line through the whole board with a red tag at its foot ("NOW 09:25", 700 11px white).

Marks:
- Bar chart: floating horizontal range bars drawn as strips 30px tall with square corners and a small drop shadow (0 2px, 1.5 blur, black 55%). Each strip has a 14px darker edge with its category letter, the name top left, a code top right, a hairline field divider at 17px (print at 22% opacity) and the start–end times beneath. Overlapping items in the same row are drawn on top of each other, with the later one outlined 3px amber and a 5px amber diagonal hatch under the overlap span.
- Line chart: draw each series as a sequence of short strips (holder color by series) on a time axis, or as a 2.5px line in the holder colors with square 8px markers printed with the value in 9.5px mono; keep the rack rows, the now line and the amber conflict highlight for points that break a threshold.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, glossy panels, holder colors other than these three, and text that runs past the end of a strip (shorten fields for short strips).

When you're done, render the chart and check that every strip's text fits inside it, the category letters make the three colors distinguishable without color, the now line and conflict read at thumbnail size, and the title's times match the data.
