Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Flight Plan" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a pale aeronautical sectional chart with a pilot's planned profile drawn on it. Calm buff paper, a tint of blue water at the edges, precise magenta route ink and small symbol vocabulary (fix triangles, airport rings, flags). Technical and quiet, never busy.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Land (canvas): #F4ECD6 (buff).
- Water: #D3E6EE, with a soft blurred inner edge in #B7D3E0 (10px stroke, Gaussian blur 9) and a 1.2px shoreline in #7FA9C2.
- Route and data ink: #B0197E (sectional magenta). Used for the data line, the airway strip, leg-distance boxes, flags and the route value.
- Airports and secondary symbols: #1C5A8C (airport blue).
- Chart ink for titles, fix symbols and neatline: #1F2A36. Secondary text: #6B6453. Faint terrain contours: #DCCDA6. Gridlines: #CDBE98.
- Label boxes: #FFFFFF.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- B612 for everything (400 and 700), the typeface designed for cockpit legibility.
- Title 24px 700 #1F2A36 stating the finding. Subtitle 14px 400 #1F2A36; a second subtitle line 12px #6B6453 giving measure and units.
- Axis labels 12px #6B6453 ("FL100", "GND"). Fix identifiers 12px 700 uppercase, five letters. Data labels 12px 700. Small captions 11px, uppercase captions with 1 to 1.5px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- A 1px #1F2A36 neatline inset 16px from the canvas edge, with minute ticks every 18px on the top and bottom edges (5px long, every fifth one 10px).
- Irregular water shapes about 45 to 60px deep on the left and right edges, so the chart reads as land between two coasts.
- Title panel: a white box with a 1px ink border at the top left (about 560 x 92px) with a 6px magenta bar on its left edge. A smaller white info box at the top right lists key facts as caption/value pairs (caption 11px #6B6453 letter-spaced, value 13px 700 right-aligned).
- Plot area from x 124 to 852, y 176 to 448. Below it, at y 500, an airway strip runs the full plot width.
- "Source: illustrative data" 11px #6B6453 bottom left; "NOT FOR NAVIGATION" 11px 700 magenta with 1.5px letter-spacing bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- Y gridlines 1px #CDBE98 dashed 2 on 4; a 1px ink baseline. Y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot.
- The x axis is the airway strip itself: a 2px magenta line over a 12px magenta halo at 22% opacity, with fix triangles (open white, 1.4px ink stroke, 13px wide) at each position, the identifier 30px below and the cumulative distance 45px below in 11px #6B6453.
- Between each pair of fixes, a white box with a 1px magenta border holding the leg value in 11px 700 magenta.
- Endpoints are airport symbols: a white circle r 9 with a 3px #1C5A8C ring and four 3px ticks from r 10.5 to r 15, with the name in 12px 700 blue beside it.
- Dotted drop lines (0.9px ink at 35% opacity, dash 1.5 on 3) from each data point to the strip.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight segments, 3.2px #B0197E with round joins over a 7px white halo at 80% opacity. A 45 degree magenta hatch at 16% opacity (1px lines every 7px) fills the area under the line. Each interior point gets an open fix triangle (11px wide, white fill, 1.3px ink). Label changing points with their value ("FL150") in 12px 700 ink, up-left of the point; label a long flat run once with a centered magenta caption ("CRUISE FL350 · 210 NM", 12px 700, 1px letter-spacing).
- Mark the key turning points (top of climb, top of descent, or the series maximum and minimum) with small swallowtail flags: a 1.3px ink pole 58px tall and a 40 x 20px magenta flag with a 7px notch and white 11px 700 text ("T/C", "T/D").
- Bar chart: slim vertical bars in #B0197E hatch fill (the same 45 degree hatch at 35% opacity) with a 2px magenta outline and square corners, about 40% of the band. Value labels 12px 700 ink above each bar. Category labels sit on the airway strip as fix identifiers, and the highlighted bar can carry a flag.
- Multiple series: the second series in #1C5A8C with the same halo, dashed 8 on 4, labeled directly in 12px 700 of its color.

Texture:
- A few faint terrain contour curves (1.2px #DCCDA6) in the land near the bottom, never crossing labels.

Avoid: gradients on data, drop shadows, rounded corners, bright fills, legends when direct labels fit, and any font other than B612.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the water reads at both edges, every identifier and leg box on the strip is legible and uncrowded, flags do not touch the title panel, and the title's numbers match the data.
