Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Fleet Effort" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a harbour authority's year-in-review page. Dark, warm and legible: a charcoal navy page, four earthy gear colors stacked by month, a hatched closed season and a slim companion strip for a second measure.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #141C24 (charcoal navy).
- Series in stack order from the baseline: #4F7FD0 (steel blue), #43A69B (teal), #E07F63 (coral), #D8C08C (sand).
- Companion strip line and labels: #C9D4DE. Closed-season hatch: #2C3B4A 2.4px stripes at 45 degrees, 7px apart, on #1A2530.
- Text #E6ECF2, secondary text #8E9BA8, gridlines #253240, baseline #5A6878.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Prompt throughout. Title 600 27px, stating the finding. Subtitle 15px #8E9BA8. Tick and month labels 12.5 to 13px #8E9BA8. Total labels 12px (the peak one 600 in #E6ECF2). Closed-season label 11.5px 600 uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing, detail line 11.5px. Legend 13.5px, source 11.5px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Title at y 58, subtitle at 86. A companion strip for the second measure from y 164 to 212, then the main plot from y 240 to baseline 492, x 96 to 904, 12 bands.
- The closed-season band spans both the strip and the plot, from y 120 to the baseline, with its label at the top.
- Legend row at y 548 with 12px swatches (2px radius) and a hatch swatch, source at 580.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #253240 gridlines at even steps (150 days), labels to the left. A 1.2px #5A6878 baseline, month labels 22px below.
- The companion strip has no axis: its values are printed above each point. Never put a second measure on a right-hand axis.

Marks:
- Bar chart: 40px stacked bars (about 60% of the band), a 3px rounded top on the top segment only, 1.5px page-colored gaps between segments, the total above each bar.
- Companion line: 1.4px #C9D4DE line with 3px hollow dots (page fill, 1.4px stroke) and 12px value labels above each dot, plus a two-line 12px 600 label at the left.
- Line chart: four 2.4px lines in the same colors (or a stacked area at 85% opacity), direct labels at the right end, the same hatched closed season and companion strip.

Avoid: a dual y axis, gradients, glows, more than four series colors, and legends that repeat direct labels.

When you're done, render the chart and check that stack totals match their labels, the closed season covers exactly the closed months, companion values sit above their dots without touching bar labels, and adjacent stack colors stay distinct.
