Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Fish Finder" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a marine sonar display on a survey vessel's bridge. Dark, glowing and instrumental: a deep navy screen with an echogram texture, a bright yellow trace and orange fish-arch marks, all in a monospaced readout font.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #07162B (deep navy).
- Main trace: #F4D03F (sonar yellow). Event marks (detections, highlights): #F08A2E (orange).
- Echogram bands in the plot, top to bottom: #0A1D38, #0B2140, #0C2545, #0D2946, #0E2C45, #0F2F43, #103240, #11353D, #12383A, #133B37. Faint ping streaks: #3569A8 in the upper half and #3E8E6A in the lower half, 12 to 28% opacity.
- Depth gauge gradient: #1A4A8C at the top, #1E5E73 at 55%, #2F7A4E at the bottom.
- Text #DCE6F2, secondary text #7F93AD, gridlines #1C3252, screen outline #24406A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Share Tech Mono everywhere. Eyebrow 14px #7F93AD with 1.6px letter-spacing ("SONAR LOG // TRANSECT T-7 // 24 H"). Title 26px #DCE6F2 stating the finding. Subtitle 15px #7F93AD. Tick labels 13 to 14px, legend 14px, source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 52, title at 92, subtitle at 120. The plot is a rounded screen (6px radius, 1.2px #24406A outline) from x 88 to 812, y 166 to 486.
- A separate 20px-wide depth gauge column at x 852 on the right edge with its own "DEPTH" header and meter ticks (0 to 200 m) and a small orange triangle marking the seabed. It is decoration for the echogram, never a second scale for the data.
- Legend row at y 540, source at 578.

Axes and grid:
- Dashed 1px #1C3252 gridlines (2 on, 4 off) inside the screen, y labels to the left in #7F93AD with the unit above, x labels as zero-padded times ("03:00") 24px under the screen.

Marks and effects:
- Line chart: a 2.6px yellow straight-segment line with a glow underneath (a 6px copy at 45% opacity blurred with stdDeviation 3.2, filter region set to the whole canvas), and 4 x 4px square yellow markers at each ordinary point.
- Detections: replace a point's square with an orange fish arch, a 3px quadratic arc 22px wide rising 14px, plus a thinner 1.6px inner arc at 70% opacity.
- Peak: a 1px dotted yellow drop line from the top of the screen to the peak with "PEAK 142" in 15px yellow.
- Bar chart: narrow yellow bars (about 40% of the band, square) with the same glow, orange fish arches floating 8px above bars that contain detections, same echogram screen and gauge.

Avoid: a light background, proportional fonts, rounded sans labels, a right-hand axis for the data, glows on text, and more than the yellow and orange accents.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the glow is not clipped, the arches sit exactly on their points, the depth gauge reads as a separate instrument, and the echogram texture stays subtle behind the trace.
