Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Firewall Log" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a terminal session on a network engineer's screen. True black, one monospace family, pale sea green data and a single amber alarm, with real-looking log lines as texture.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #000000 (true black).
- Data: #8FD3B6 (pale sea green). The single most important bin or bar: #FFB547 (amber), plus its annotation and tick label.
- Prompt user and host: #5FBF93. Command and bright text: #D3E2DA (also the dotted median line and cursor block).
- Secondary text: #7E948A. Dim text, tick labels and log lines: #4C5E56. Gridlines: #1B2A23 (dim green-gray).

Typography (Google Fonts): Fira Code for everything, with ligatures on (so "->" renders as an arrow).
- Line 1, the title, rendered as a shell prompt at 17px 500: "ops@northgate-fw:~$ " in #5FBF93 then the command in #D3E2DA, followed by a 10 x 18px #D3E2DA cursor block 4px after the last character (blinking with a 1.1s opacity animation where supported).
- Line 2, the finding, 600 at 25px with -0.5px letter-spacing in #D3E2DA.
- Line 3, a comment starting with "# " at 13.5px in #7E948A stating the measure, unit and total.
- Ticks and labels 11.5px, log lines 12px, footer 11px.

Layout:
- 40px side margins. Prompt at y 54, finding at y 96, comment at y 124.
- Plot from x 88 to 912, y 170 to a baseline at 452.
- Below the axis, a 1px #1B2A23 rule, then three dim log lines 18px apart ("03:14:07 DENY tcp ... -> ... rule=IN-SSH-07") with the source address redacted by a solid #4C5E56 block the width of the hidden characters.
- Footer: "-- 3 of N lines shown, sources redacted --" at the left and "Source: illustrative data" at the right, both dim.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #1B2A23 horizontal gridlines, tick labels in "5k" form right-aligned 10px left of the plot, a 1px #7E948A baseline, hour labels every third bin as zero-padded "03".

Marks:
- Bar chart (histogram): bins touching with a 1px hairline gap, square corners, all sea green except the peak bin in amber. In bins taller than 64px, print the count vertically (rotated 90 degrees, reading downward) near the top of the bar in black Fira Code 500 11.5px. An amber annotation right of the peak: "<- 18,412 denied, ..." in 12.5px. A dotted median line (1.2px #D3E2DA, 1 on 4 with round caps) across the plot, labeled "median 4,750/h" centered above a stretch of short bars.
- Line chart: a 1.8px sea green stepped line (one step per bin, like a histogram outline) with a 10% sea green fill below, the peak step in amber with an amber dot, the same dotted median and vertical labels omitted.

Avoid: rounded corners, glows, gradients, CRT scanlines, any second accent color, proportional fonts, and unredacted IP addresses.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the prompt, cursor and all text use Fira Code, only one bin is amber, vertical counts fit inside their bars, the redaction blocks cover the hidden characters exactly, and the ratio in the finding line matches the data.
