Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Fire Season" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a wildland fire danger briefing shown on a dark screen. Hot and serious: soot black, an ember gradient along the top, danger class bands in deepening reds and a glowing orange line.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #16110E (soot).
- Ember accent: a 6px full-width bar at the top edge with a horizontal gradient from #F97316 (orange) to #7F1D1D (deep red).
- Primary series: #F97316 with a #FFD2A8 highlight core.
- Class bands: #7F1D1D at 7%, 15%, 25%, 37% and 52% opacity from the lowest band to the highest, split by 1.5px #16110E lines.
- Event markers: #EF4444. Title and legend text: #F5E6DA. Secondary text: #A8928A. The top band label: #F2A58A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Alfa Slab One 30px #F5E6DA for the title, stating the finding.
- Barlow for everything else: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in #F97316; subtitle 16px #A8928A with measure, scale, period and counts; band labels 12px 600 uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing; axis labels 13px; month labels 13px 600 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; marker row label 11px 700 uppercase in #EF4444; legend 13px; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 52, title at y 92, subtitle at y 120.
- Plot from x 80 to 820, y 196 to 492. Band labels outside the plot at the right, vertically centered in each band.
- A marker row 16px above the plot for flagged days, labeled at its left.
- Footer at y 558: legend (an orange bar swatch and a red triangle) on the left, "Source: illustrative data" on the right.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines: the class bands are the grid. Y labels at each band boundary, right-aligned 12px left of the plot.
- A 1px #A8928A baseline with 8px month ticks and month labels just right of each tick.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight daily segments in three layers: a 10px #F97316 stroke at 55% opacity blurred with a 6px Gaussian blur (filter region set to the full canvas), a 3.5px #F97316 stroke with round joins and a 1px #FFD2A8 core at 80% opacity. Mark the peak with a 6px soot-filled circle ringed 2.5px in #FFD2A8. Flagged days get small downward #EF4444 triangles (5.6px wide, 8px tall) in the marker row.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered columns in #F97316 with the same 6px glow behind them at 45% opacity over the red class bands, the tallest column ringed in #FFD2A8, and #EF4444 triangles above flagged periods.

Avoid: cool colors, white backgrounds, gridlines on top of the bands, clipped glows and bright band fills that compete with the line.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the glow is not clipped at the plot edges, band labels align with their bands, and the counts in the subtitle match the markers.
