Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Fire Danger" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a roadside fire danger rating sign turned into a chart. Seen at night under headlights: a deep forest-green sign face, the plot painted in the sign's reflective rating stripes muted for the dark ground, one cream line anyone can read from a passing car, and the sign's own semicircle dial as the legend.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #12231D (deep forest-green sign face) for the whole canvas.
- Rating bands, low to high: #52A860 (green, low to moderate), #3D8FD1 (blue, high), #E0BE45 (yellow, very high), #DE7F2E (orange, severe), #CF3A41 (red, extreme). Also the ban-day blocks: #CF3A41.
- Ink (cream) for the data line, title, threshold, needle and labels: #F3EBD8. Secondary text: #A3B2A8.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Big Shoulders Display for display type: title 36px 800 uppercase with 0.3px letter-spacing in #F3EBD8, stating the finding with its numbers; month labels 16px 700 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; the peak callout 19px 800 uppercase.
- Big Shoulders Text for small type: eyebrow 14px 700 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in #A3B2A8; subtitle 15px 500 #A3B2A8; tick labels 14px 600; band names, dial caption and strip labels 11 to 12px 700 uppercase with 1 to 1.4px letter-spacing; source 13px 500.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 94, subtitle at y 122.
- Top right, a rating dial centered at x 850, y 118: a semicircle (outer radius 56, inner 30) split into five equal segments in the band colors, low on the left, with small sign-face-colored gaps between segments. A 3px #F3EBD8 needle from a 5px hub points to the middle of the band the series peaked in, captioned "PEAK: <BAND>" below.
- Plot from x 76 to x 818 and y 178 to y 480. The right gutter lists the bands, each vertically centered on its stripe: a 10px square in the band color and the band name in #F3EBD8.
- Below the date axis, a 14px "BANS" strip at y 520 (a #F3EBD8 tint at 8% opacity) with one #CF3A41 block per qualifying day, each exactly one day wide with a 1.2px gap. Footer at y 580: source left, a count note right ("11 RED BLOCKS = 11 DAYS AT 50 OR ABOVE").

Axes and grid:
- Each rating band is painted as a full-width stripe of its color at 46% opacity over the sign face, separated from the next by a 2.5px #12231D gap at the band boundary (0, 12, 25, 50, 75, 100). Tick labels at the boundaries, right-aligned 10px left of the plot.
- The action threshold (50) is a 1.6px #F3EBD8 line dashed 6 4 with an uppercase label just above its left end.
- A 1.5px #F3EBD8 baseline; month starts get 8px ticks and a bold month label to the right of the tick; weeks get 4px #A3B2A8 ticks.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight-segment #F3EBD8 line, 3px, round joins and caps, over a 6.5px #12231D underlay so it lifts off the stripes. Mark the peak with a 6px #12231D-filled ring stroked 2.4px #F3EBD8 and label it with value, band name and date.
- Bar chart: one slim #F3EBD8 bar per period (about 60% of the band, square corners) standing on the same striped rating background, so the stripe behind each bar top shows its rating; the same dial, band list and ban strip apply.

Avoid: a light or warm near-black background, glows, full-strength neon band colors, coloring the data line by band (the stripes carry the rating), smooth curves (daily index values are discrete), and a boxed legend (the dial and gutter list are the legend).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the dial needle points at the band of the true peak, the stripes change exactly at the band boundaries, the number of red blocks equals the ban-day count in the title, and no band name or callout touches the line.
