Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Finisher Histogram" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the printed results bulletin pinned up at a race finish area. Cream paper, a heavy masthead rule, a tight condensed headline, typewriter-like monospaced figures and one hot orange data color.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F7F3EA (bulletin cream).
- Data: #F26B21 (race orange) for every bar or line. No second data color.
- Ink: #23201B for the masthead, title, reference lines, boxes and axis figures.
- Secondary text: #7A7264. Gridlines: #DDD5C4.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Archivo Narrow for words: masthead 14px 700 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing; title 30px 700 in ink stating the finding; subtitle 16.5px 400 #7A7264 with measure, unit and count; reference captions 13.5px 600 #7A7264; box captions 11px 700 uppercase, 1.4px letter-spacing, #7A7264; axis titles 13px.
- Sometype Mono for every figure: axis numbers 12 to 13px 400, reference values 15px 700 ink, boxed values 15px 700 ink, bulletin number and footer 11.5 to 12px #7A7264.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. A 3px ink rule at y 36 across the full content width, the masthead (event name left, "OFFICIAL RESULTS BULLETIN No. 3" in mono right) at y 60, then a 0.8px ink rule at y 70.
- Title at y 112, subtitle at y 140. Plot from x 80 to x 900, y 196 to 486.
- Footer: 0.8px ink rule at y 552, source left and a method note right, both in mono.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #DDD5C4 horizontal gridlines every round step; y labels in mono right-aligned 10px left of the plot, with a small "Runners" axis title above them.
- A 1.4px ink baseline, 6px ink ticks, mono labels 24px below, and an x axis title right-aligned under the last label.

Marks:
- Bar chart (histogram): bins touch with no gaps. Draw the columns as one orange shape, then add 0.6px cream hairlines at 55% opacity between adjacent bins so the bins stay countable. Square corners.
- Line chart: a 2.5px #F26B21 stepped line (step-after) with a 12% orange area fill underneath, no point markers.
- Reference thresholds: 1.2px ink dashed (5 on, 4 off) vertical lines rising 46px above the plot top. Left of each line's top, a two-line label right-aligned 7px from the line: the value in 15px 700 mono ink, then the share beyond it in 13.5px 600 Archivo Narrow #7A7264 ("24.7% faster").
- Boxed notes (winner, median or other single values): 124 x 40px cream boxes with a 1px ink border, square corners, an 11px caption and 15px 700 mono value, joined to the data by 0.8px ink elbow leaders ending in a 3px ink dot.

Avoid: gaps between histogram bins, rounded corners, gradients, shadows, a second data color, serif fonts, legends.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the bins touch, every threshold share and the median are computed from the data, the two-line threshold labels don't collide with each other, and all figures use the monospaced font.
