Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Finds Register" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the finds catalogue table in an archaeology site report, where a table grows bars. Sober, earthy and precise: pale khaki paper, one umber ink for the data, small material color chips and a second number riding at each bar end.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #EDE6D3 (pale khaki), with a 1px #CFC5AC frame inset 36px from the edges.
- Every bar: #6E4B30 (umber). One color for all bars; categories are distinguished by label, not hue.
- Ink for title, category names and bold values: #2A2119. Secondary text, codes, weights and ticks: #6F6452.
- Group header text and the group divider rule: #6E4B30. Gridlines and the frame: #CFC5AC.
- Category chips: small swatches in each item's real material color, e.g. #8A6F58, #A58B6C, #8C8A83, #5E4D3E, #3B3530, #B0553A (red slip), #C49A6C, #E6DCC6, each with a 0.8px #2A2119 outline at 35% opacity.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- PT Serif 700 for the title only (28px, ink, stating the finding with the computed share and total).
- PT Sans Narrow for everything else: table label above the title 13px 700 with 1.2px letter-spacing in #6F6452 ("Table 4.2 ..."); subtitle 16px; column heads 12px 700 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; group headers 12.5px 700 uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing in umber, followed by the group subtotal in 13px #6F6452; item codes 13px 700 #6F6452; category names 16px ink; bar-end values 15px with the primary number in 700 ink and the secondary measure 6px after it in 400 #6F6452 ("412 5,830 g"); tick labels and source 12 to 12.5px.

Layout:
- 64px inner margin. Table label, title and subtitle at the top left, then a header row ("FABRIC" over the label column, the measure name over the bars) with a 1.2px ink rule under it.
- Label column on the left: chip (16px square, 2px radius), code, then name. Bars start at x 330, rows 28px apart.
- Groups are stacked with an uppercase group header row; a 0.8px umber rule spans the full table width between groups, with 10px of air on both sides.
- Source line at the bottom inside the frame.

Axes and grid:
- A 1px ink zero line running the full height of the table. Vertical 0.8px #CFC5AC dotted gridlines (2 on, 3 off) at round values, labeled once at the bottom in 12px #6F6452. No top axis, no box around the plot.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal square-cornered bars 17px tall, sorted descending within each group, starting at zero. Values at the bar end, 8px out: bold count then the secondary measure in gray.
- Line chart: a 2px umber line with square umber markers (6px) at each point, categories or periods along the x axis, a chip-and-label key at the left for each series (second series in #8A6F58 dashed 5 3, third in #B0553A), and each line's last value labeled at its end in the bold-plus-gray two-part format.

Avoid: multiple bar colors, gradients, rounded bars, shadows, heavy borders, and a legend box (chips sit beside labels).

When you're done, render the chart and check that bars are sorted within each group, the group rule sits clearly between groups, the title's share and total are computed from the data, and the bar-end labels never touch the right frame.
