Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Film Curve" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a page from a film manufacturer's technical data sheet. Precise, sober and engineered: curves plotted on fine graph ruling, condensed uppercase labels, a boxed spec table and a sheet number in the corner. Nothing decorative.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF.
- Primary ink (text, plot frame, header rule, the middle series): #16181B.
- Accent series and callouts: #1F4E8C (deep blue).
- Light series: #8A9098 (use #6B7179 when that gray is used for text or numbers).
- Secondary text: #5B6470.
- Graph ruling: minor lines #E6EAEF at 0.6px, major lines #C5CDD6 at 0.9px. Footer rule #C5CDD6.
- Table header text on black: #FFFFFF, with the secondary header note in #C9CED6.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Bitter 700 for the title, 27px, #16181B, sentence case, stating the finding with numbers from the data.
- Barlow Condensed for everything else: eyebrow and sheet number 600 13px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in #5B6470; subtitle 400 16px #5B6470; tick labels 500 14px #16181B; axis titles 600 12px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in #5B6470; series end labels 600 14px uppercase in the series color; callouts 600 14px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing; table values 500 16px; notes 400 13 to 14px.

Layout:
- 48px side margins. A 4px #16181B rule across the top at y 36, then the eyebrow ("TECHNICAL DATA | <PRODUCT>") left and a sheet number ("SHEET F-4") right, then the title and subtitle.
- The plot on the left (about x 96 to 628, y 156 to 516) framed by a 1.2px #16181B rectangle.
- A spec table on the right (x 700 to 912, top aligned with the plot): 1.2px black outline, a 30px solid #16181B header bar with a white uppercase label and a small note, column heads in 12px uppercase #5B6470, a 1px #C5CDD6 rule, then one 30px row per series with a 38px line swatch in the series color and weight, followed by values. The table is the legend. Two or three lines of method notes sit under it.
- Footer: a 1px rule at y 566, "Source: ..." left in 13px, a folio in 12px 600 uppercase letter-spaced on the right.

Axes and grid:
- Full graph-paper ruling inside the plot frame: minor lines at every tenth of a major step, heavier major lines at each labelled value. No separate axis lines beyond the frame.
- Tick labels outside the frame: x labels 20px below, y labels right-aligned 10px left. Axis titles uppercase and letter-spaced; the y title rotated.

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth monotone curves with round caps, 2.2px for the light gray series, 2.4px for the black series, 2.8px for the blue series. Label each at its right end, 8px beyond the frame, in the series color. Mark measurement points as 3.6px white circles with a 1.4px black ring, and draw any derived reference line (a fitted gradient, a target) as a 1.1px #16181B dashed line (6 on, 4 off) running past the points it joins. Call out features of the curve (toe, shoulder, knee) with a 0.9px blue leader, a 3px blue dot on the curve and an uppercase letter-spaced label.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered bars on the same graph ruling, ordered series in #8A9098, #16181B and #1F4E8C (never more than three), each bar 60% of its band, value labels in Barlow Condensed 600 14px above the bars, and the spec table carrying the series swatches.

Labels and annotation:
- A small numeric callout for the key derived value (for example "CI 0.57") in 600 15px black, with a one-line explanation in 400 13px #5B6470 beneath it, tied to the line by a 0.8px vertical leader.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, rounded corners, bright colors beyond the one blue, a floating legend box (the spec table is the legend), and loose serif text anywhere except the title.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the ruling reads as graph paper without overpowering the curves, every series is identifiable by its end label and table swatch, table columns do not collide, and the numbers in the title match the data.
