Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Filing Season" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a county office's manila file folder pulled from the cabinet. Warm paper, olive ink, clean office typography and a single urgent brick color for the deadline.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Backing behind the folder: #E6D8B0. Folder: #F7EFD9 with a soft drop shadow (0 2px 3px blur, #5A4A22 at 22%).
- Main marks: #6B7F2A (olive). Highlight mark (deadline or key period): #9A3412 (brick). Inset secondary series: #D3DB9E (pale olive).
- Ink: #3B3423. Secondary text: #7A6E52. Gridlines: #E2D5B0.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Zilla Slab 700 for the title (24px, #3B3423, on the folder tab), and the highlighted value label (20px brick).
- Barlow for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 600 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing in #7A6E52; subtitle 14.5px #7A6E52; legend 13px 600; value labels 12px 600; y labels 12.5px 500; week labels 12.5px 500 #7A6E52 (the highlight week 700 brick); annotation 12.5px 700 brick; source 12px.

Layout:
- Folder shape: body from x 28 to 932 and y 92 to 580 with 10px rounded corners; a tab rising from the top-left corner to y 22 and running to about x 596, its right end a slanted edge sloping down to the body line. The title and eyebrow sit on the tab, with a 10 x 44px olive strip at x 54 like a colored file label.
- Subtitle at y 128 in the folder body, a legend row at y 146 (14px squares; the inset series shown as a narrower 8px swatch).
- Plot from x 92 to 900 and y 196 to 470. Source line at y 552 left, a season total right-aligned in 12px 600.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #E2D5B0 horizontal gridlines, y labels right-aligned 10px left of the plot, a 1.4px #3B3423 baseline, no y axis line.
- Category labels as plain, level text centered 22px below the baseline ("Wk 1" to "Wk 14"), no boxes, no rotation, no texture.

Marks:
- Bar chart: square-cornered olive bars 36px wide; the deadline bar brick. The secondary series (for example extension requests) as a narrower 16px pale olive bar centered inside each main bar, starting at the baseline. Value labels 7px above each bar; the highlight bar gets a large Zilla Slab value plus a small "RETURNS" caption. A plain annotation names the deadline beside the highlight bar ("Filing deadline week", right-aligned in brick, joined to the bar by a short 1px brick rule), and a thin 1px elbow leader from the inset's top runs to a two-line note ("6.8k extensions, 37% of that week").
- Line chart: a 2.5px olive line with 5px olive dots, the highlight point as a larger brick dot, and the secondary series as a pale olive area under a 1.5px olive dashed line; keep the plain period labels along the baseline.

Texture:
- None. The folder paper stays flat and every label stays crisp and level.

Avoid: gradients on bars, rounded bar corners, bright greens, glossy effects, rubber-stamp or distressed effects on text, rotated labels, and brick on anything but the highlight bar and its labels.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the title fits on the tab, the week labels are crisp, the inset bars stay inside their main bars, and the note and deadline annotation do not collide with bars or value labels.
