Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Fermentation Log" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a small-batch brewer's logbook page. Pale oat paper, a sturdy bookish serif, two measures tracked side by side with handwritten-feeling italic tasting notes pinned to the line.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F4EFE4 (pale oat).
- Measure one: #6B2E4F (deep plum). Measure two: #C98A2B (amber). Each measure's axis, tick labels and panel label use its own color.
- Ink: #2B2622. Secondary text: #7A7064. Gridlines: #DDD4C3.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Brygada 1918 700 for the title (29px, #2B2622, sentence case, stating the finding) and for end-of-line values (18px, series color). Brygada 1918 italic 400 at 14.5px #2B2622 for tasting notes.
- Open Sans for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 600 uppercase, 2.2px letter-spacing, #7A7064 ("BATCH 14 · GINGER KOMBUCHA · 2.5 L JAR"); subtitle 15px #7A7064; panel labels 12px 700 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing in the measure color; tick labels 12.5px 600 in the measure color; day labels 12.5px #7A7064; axis title 12.5px 600 ink; source 11.5px #7A7064.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 92, subtitle at y 120.
- Never use a dual axis. When two measures with different units share a time axis, stack them as two panels (top about 160px tall, bottom about 125px tall, 44px apart) that share one x axis at the bottom. Plot from x 110 to 880. Each panel label sits above its panel at the left margin.
- With a single measure, use one panel in plum.

Axes and grid:
- Each panel has a 2px vertical axis line and 6px ticks in its own color, with 1px #DDD4C3 horizontal gridlines at each tick.
- One shared 1.2px ink day axis under the bottom panel, 5px ticks at every day, labels every second day, "Day of ferment" right-aligned below.

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth monotone lines, 2.8px, round caps, small solid r 3 dots at every reading in the line color. The final value is printed 12px right of the last point in Brygada 1918 700 18px in the line color.
- Bar chart: slim vertical bars (about 50% of the band), square corners, in the measure color, starting at zero; a second measure goes in its own stacked panel below with amber bars, sharing the category axis. Values in Brygada 1918 700 14px above each bar only for the first, last and annotated bars.

Labels and annotation:
- Tasting notes: up to three, each pinned to a point with a pin marker (r 6.5 oat circle with a 1.3px ink ring and an r 2.4 ink dot) and a 0.9px ink leader to a two-line italic note placed in clear space ("Day 7: bright, green / apple, lightly fizzy").

Avoid: dual y axes, legends (the panel labels do that job), gradients, shadows, bright saturated colors, and notes that sit on top of a line.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each axis is tinted to match its line, the panels share one x axis, notes point at the right readings, and the title's numbers match the data.
