Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Fan Deck" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a paint company's fan deck laid open on a warm white counter. Each bar is a printed color blade with a punched pivot hole, fanned so every blade slightly overlaps the next. Clean, tactile and colorful, but orderly.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FAF8F4 (warm white).
- Blade colors in deck order, warm to cool, one per category: #C38A16 (ochre), #93541B (sienna), #E75E27 (orange), #971B20 (crimson), #DC4770 (rose), #7F1053 (mulberry), #A96FAE (orchid), #674598 (violet), #7079DB (periwinkle), #1C4FB8 (cobalt). Neighbors alternate light and dark so adjacent blades stay distinct; with fewer categories keep the order and skip evenly.
- Ink #26221D for the title and values; #7D766C for the eyebrow, subtitle, tick labels and source; gridlines #E6E0D6.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Gloock 400 for the title, 34px, ink, stating the finding.
- Jost for everything else: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing ("MAKER / SEASON FAN DECK"); subtitle 16px; blade names 13px 600 white; blade numbers 10px 500 white at 82% opacity with 1px letter-spacing ("No. 0533"); value labels 14px 500 ink (the top value 700); tick labels 12px; source 12px.

Layout:
- 60px left margin. Eyebrow baseline 58, title 100, subtitle 128. Blades start at y 162 and run to about y 530; the value axis labels sit below them; footer line at baseline 578 with the source at left and a short order note right-aligned at x 900.
- The value scale runs from x 60 (zero) to about x 850 so the longest value label still fits before x 910.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines. Vertical gridlines at round values, 1px #E6E0D6 dashed 2 on 4 (the zero line solid), running behind the blades. Tick labels ("5k", "10k") 12px below the last blade.

Marks:
- Bar chart (horizontal): each bar is a blade 40px tall with 9px corner radius on all four corners, starting exactly at zero. Blades are spaced 36px apart, so each blade overlaps the one above by 4px; draw them top to bottom so the lower blade sits on top, each with a small upward drop shadow (dy -1.5, blur 1.6, #2A2218 at 28%). A 1px white inner edge at 18% opacity. A punched hole near the left end: a 6px radius circle filled with the page color at x +18 from zero, centered in the visible 36px of the blade, with a 1px black ring at 22% opacity. At the tip, right-aligned 14px inside the end: the name (13px 600 white) with the number under it (10px). The value sits 10px beyond the tip, vertically centered on the visible blade.
- Line chart: each series becomes a 12px-wide rounded ribbon (round caps) in its blade color, drawn with the same small shadow so ribbons read as paper strips, with a page-colored punched hole (r 4, black ring at 22%) at the first point and the series name and number in white inside the ribbon near its end, plus the last value in ink beyond it. Gridlines, fonts and colors as above.

Avoid: sorting the deck out of color order unless the data demands it, square blade ends, text in any color but white on the blades, gradients on blades, a legend (names live on the blades), heavy gridlines and bars that do not start at zero.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every blade name fits inside its blade with at least 14px of padding past the hole, the overlaps are equal and small, the holes line up in one column, and the title's number matches the data.
