Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Factory Output" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the production board on a garment factory floor. Black, loud and legible from across the room: condensed all-caps headline, white and gray bars, red targets and a star for the best line.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #101010 (black).
- Primary series (today): #F5F5F5 (bright white). Comparison series (week average): #8C8C8C (pale gray).
- Target ticks, best tag and above-target figures: #E8392B (signal red).
- Secondary text: #8A8A8A; subtitle #BDBDBD. Gridlines: #242424, zero line #5A5A5A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Anton for the title (42px, 0.5px letter-spacing, uppercase, #F5F5F5, stating the finding).
- Red Hat Mono for everything else: header line 12px 500 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing after an 8px red square; subtitle 13.5px 400; legend 12px 600 uppercase, 1.5px letter-spacing; axis labels 11.5px; category labels (L1 to L8) 20px 700 white; efficiency figures 14px 600 under each group; in-bar values 12px 700 #101010.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Header line, title, subtitle, then a legend row: white square "TODAY", gray square "WEEK AVG", a 20px red line "TARGET" (the label itself red).
- Plot from about x 104 to 904, baseline at y 446. Category labels 30px under the baseline, efficiency 52px under, with an "EFF." caption at the left. A 1px #242424 rule and a footer with "Source: ..." left and a formula note right.

Axes and grid:
- Y labels at left with thousands separators. Gridlines 1px #242424. No axis lines except the #5A5A5A zero line.

Marks:
- Bar chart: grouped bars, 32px wide with a 4px gap between the pair, square corners. Today's value is written inside the white bar at its foot, rotated to read bottom to top. A 2.5px #E8392B horizontal target tick spans each group plus 6px either side.
- Line chart: a 3px #F5F5F5 line with 5px white square markers for the primary series, a 2px #8C8C8C line for the comparison, and short red target ticks at each category (or a stepped 2px red target line).
- Efficiency (actual / target) prints under each group in #8A8A8A, or #E8392B when at or above 100%.

Labels and annotation:
- Best performer: a 64 x 22 px red tag (radius 3) centered 34px above the higher of its bar and target, with a white five-pointed star drawn as an SVG path (not a font glyph) and "BEST" in 11.5px 700 white.

Avoid: rounded bars, gradients, glows, colored bars other than white and gray, and more than one star tag.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the red ticks do not hide the in-bar values, the efficiency percentages are computed correctly, the number of lines at or above target matches the title, and the star tag clears the tallest mark.
