Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Expense Categories" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a ledger read late at night. Deep ink-blue ruled paper, fine warm-white pen lines, and a single copper glint on the latest figure in every panel.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #101826 (deep ink blue).
- Ledger rules: #1C2638, 1px, across the full width every 20px. A faint vertical margin rule at x 40 in #2A3550.
- Data lines and primary text: #F1E9D8 (warm white).
- Accent: #D08A55 (copper) for the latest point, the eyebrow, positive changes and the latest month label.
- Secondary text: #8290A6. Min and max reference lines: #2C3A55. Inactive month initials: #5C6A82.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Newsreader for the title (600, 29px, warm white, stating the finding), the subtitle (italic 400, 15.5px, #8290A6) and panel titles (600, 18px).
- Overpass Mono for all numbers and small labels: eyebrow 11.5px uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing in copper; change labels 11.5px right-aligned in each panel header ("+46% vs Jan", copper when positive, #8290A6 when negative); latest value 600 14px warm white; "high" and "low" labels 10.5px; month initials 10.5px; source 11.5px.

Layout:
- Eyebrow at y 55, title at y 94, subtitle at y 120, left margin 56px.
- Six panels in a 3 x 2 grid starting at y 160: each 272px wide and 190px tall with 20px gutters. Panel title top left, change label top right, plot below with about 96px reserved on the right for the latest value label, month initials along the bottom.
- "Source: illustrative data" bottom left at y 582 and a small key ("Copper dot: December") bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- No axes. The page's ledger rules act as the grid. Each panel gets two 1px #2C3A55 dotted lines (2 on, 3 off) at its own high and low, labelled "high $11,980" above and "low $8,200" below at the left. Say in the subtitle that each panel has its own scale.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 1.6px warm-white line, smoothed with a monotone curve, no markers except the latest point: a 4.5px copper dot over an 8px copper glow (Gaussian blur 3, 50% opacity), with the latest value printed 10px to its right and the period ("Dec") under it in #8290A6.
- Bar chart: small multiples of thin warm-white bars (about 40% of the band, square corners) on the same ruled page, the latest bar in copper with its value beside it in Overpass Mono.

Avoid: color per category (every panel uses the same warm white), filled areas, heavy gridlines, legends, and shared y axes that flatten the small panels.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every panel's latest value label clears the panel edge, the high and low labels don't touch the line, the ledger rules stay faint, and the percentages in the title match the data.
