Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Exhibit Dwell" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a museum exhibit label panel. Matte gray card, a black header bar with a numbered exhibit code, one confident teal, crisp grotesque type.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Canvas: #F2F2F0 (soft gray).
- Header bar and ink: #111111. Header text: #FFFFFF.
- Data: #0D9488 (teal) for all primary marks; also the short 40 x 3px accent rule under the title.
- Range whiskers: #A3A3A0. Gridlines: #DCDCD8. Secondary text: #5C5C58.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Archivo throughout. Title 800, 29px, white on the black bar, -0.3px letter-spacing, stating the finding. Exhibit code box: "EXHIBIT" 600 9px with 2px letter-spacing over the code in 800 18px. Subtitle 400 14px #5C5C58. Category labels 14px, 700 for flagged categories and 500 for others. Value labels 700 13px. Legend 600 12px. Footer tag 700 11px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- A full-width 92px #111111 header bar. At x 40 an 84 x 44px outlined box (2px white stroke) holding the exhibit code; the title starts at x 146 with the teal accent rule 12px under its baseline.
- Subtitle at y 128 with measure, unit and any summary numbers; a one-line legend at y 156 (swatch, whisker sample, icon sample).
- Plot from x 256 to 880 with row labels right-aligned at x 222 and a 34px icon column between labels and bars.
- A 1px #111111 footer rule at y 564, source at the left and a spaced uppercase tag at the right.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical gridlines at round values, 1px #DCDCD8; the zero line is a 1.5px #111111 rule. Axis numbers 12px #5C5C58 below the plot with the unit ("min") after the last one. No frame.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars 14px tall, square corners, solid teal, sorted descending, 29px row pitch. Behind each bar, a 2px #A3A3A0 whisker for the interquartile range with 12px end caps. Value label 10px right of the whisker end in 700 13px #111111.
- Line chart: a 2.5px teal line with 4px teal dots on the #F2F2F0 ground; the interquartile range as a 2px #A3A3A0 vertical whisker with caps at each point; same header bar and footer.
- Flag icon: flagged categories (here, hands-on exhibits) get a small open-hand outline icon (about 12 x 15px, 1.2px #111111 stroke, gray fill) in the icon column, and their labels go bold.

Avoid: rounded bars, gradients, shadows, colored backgrounds for the plot, more than one data hue, a y axis line on the left for horizontal bars beyond the zero rule.

When you're done, render the chart and check that whiskers stay visible behind the bars, the icon column aligns, and the averages in the subtitle are correct for the data.
