Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Exceedance Curve" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a catastrophe model output screen at a reinsurer. Dark, cool and technical, with two luminous curves and crisp boxed readouts at the return periods that matter.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #10161F (deep charcoal blue). Plot panel: #161E2A.
- Gross / primary series: #38BDF8 (cyan). Net / secondary series: #FB923C (warm orange).
- Gridlines and card borders: #243041. Primary text: #E6EDF5. Secondary text: #8B98A9.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Sora for words: title 600 at 26px #E6EDF5 stating the finding; subtitle 14px #8B98A9; legend 12.5px; card row labels 11.5px; annotations 11px; axis title and source 11 to 11.5px.
- Red Hat Mono for figures: eyebrow 11px 500 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; tick labels 11.5px (x tick numbers in #E6EDF5); secondary probability row 10px; card headers 10.5px 600 with 1.2px letter-spacing; card values 14px 600 in the series color.

Layout:
- 48px margins. Eyebrow at y 48, title at y 88, subtitle at y 114, legend right-aligned at y 142 (24px 2.5px line swatches).
- Plot panel from x 96 to 884, y 172 to 486, filled #161E2A.
- Under the x axis two rows: return period in years, and annual exceedance probability (100 / return period, %) below it, with small "Years" and "Prob." row labels at the left. Axis title right-aligned below. Source left and a mono model-run stamp right at y 572.

Axes and grid:
- Log-scale x axis (for exceedance charts, return period 2 to 1,000 years) with vertical 1px #243041 gridlines at 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 and 4px minor tick marks between. Horizontal 1px #243041 gridlines every 200 units.

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth 2.5px curves, each over a soft glow copy (5px stroke, 35% opacity, Gaussian blur 3, filter region covering the whole canvas). The area between the two curves shaded in cyan at 9% opacity with a small cyan label inside it. Vertical dotted markers (1.2px #E6EDF5, 1.5 on 4 off, round caps) at key return periods, with hollow circles (r 4.5, page fill, 2px series stroke) where each curve crosses. Each marker carries a boxed card (156 x 74, radius 3, #10161F fill, 1px #243041 border) with a mono header like "1-IN-100 PML" and gross and net rows, joined to the marker by a 1px #8B98A9 leader; put cards in empty space on alternating sides.
- Bar chart: paired vertical bars per category, cyan and orange, 2px top radius, a faint cyan 9% box between each pair's tops showing the gap, with the same boxed value cards above the key categories and a 1px glow-free baseline.

Labels and annotation:
- A short orange note on any flat stretch of the net curve explaining it (for example "Net flat at the $200M retention").

Avoid: pure black, warm backgrounds, thick gridlines, a linear x axis for return periods, more than two series colors, and cards that overlap the curves.

When you're done, render the chart and check that both curves and their glows are visible and unclipped, card values match the curve heights at their markers, the probability row equals 100 divided by the return period, and nothing overlaps the cards.
