Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Epi Curve" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the epidemic curve figure in a public health outbreak report, set on dark navy. Methodical and conventional: one block per case, no gaps between days, a marked intervention, and the footnotes an investigator expects.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground #121A2B.
- Categories in order: #4AA3A2 muted teal, #E0A84A amber, #D0707A rose.
- Labels, baseline, intervention line and annotation text #D5DBE5; secondary text and axis labels #8793A8; annotation box border and footer rule #2A3550; title #F2F4F8.
- Incubation shading: #FFFFFF at 8% opacity.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Source Serif 4 600 27px for the title, stating the finding.
- Source Sans 3 for everything else: eyebrow 600 12px uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing; subtitle 400 15px including the total n; legend 600 13px; axis labels 12px (week starts in 600 #D5DBE5); annotation 700 13px heading with 12.5px body; footnotes 11.5px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow, title, subtitle, then a legend row of 12px squares and setting names.
- Plot from x=96 to 904 with the y axis at the left. Date labels under every day and an axis title below ("March 2026, date of onset").
- Footer rule, then the case definition and "Each block is one case. Source: illustrative data".

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines. A thin #8793A8 y axis line with 5px ticks every 2 cases and a "Cases" label above. A 1.2px #D5DBE5 baseline.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked daily columns with zero gap between days, built from one cell per case (18.5px tall) outlined with a 1.5px stroke in the ground color #121A2B so individual cases read as blocks. Stack the settings in legend order from the bottom.
- Line chart: stepped lines (horizontal at each day, vertical at day boundaries) of daily cases per category, 2px in each category color, with a light 12% fill of the same color under the total; keep the intervention marker, shading and annotation box.
- Intervention: a 1.4px dashed (5 4) #D5DBE5 vertical line at the day boundary where it took effect, with an annotation box (#121A2B fill, 1px #2A3550 border, 3px #D5DBE5 left accent) giving the date and what happened.
- Incubation window: a shaded band covering the days after the intervention within the incubation period, labeled "incubation" and "12–48 h" in 10.5px #8793A8 at its top.

Avoid: gaps between days, rounded corners, gradients, glows, gridlines, and more than three category colors.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each column's block count equals the day's cases, n in the subtitle equals the total, the intervention line sits exactly on a day boundary, and labels do not overlap the dashed line.
