Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Entrance Counter" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the screen of an infrared counter at a hive entrance. Near-black, thin precise lines, square data points, hourly tick marks and a readout panel with the day's totals, set in a squared technical typeface.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #121212. Gridlines and footer rule: #2A2A2A. Panel fill: #1B1B1B with a 1px #3A3A3A border. Primary text: #E8E6E1. Secondary text: #8A8780.
- First series: #F5C518 (signal yellow). Second series: #EDE3C8 (pale cream), always dashed so the two stay distinct without color.
- Gap shading where the first series exceeds the second: #F5C518 at 22% opacity. No shading where the second is higher.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Tomorrow throughout. Eyebrow 12px 500 uppercase, 2.2px letter-spacing, #8A8780, after a 4px yellow status dot. Title 24px 600 #E8E6E1 stating the finding (compute any crossing time by interpolation). Subtitle 14px #8A8780.
- Axis labels 12px #8A8780, thousands separated with commas, times as HH:00. Series labels 13px 600 in their colors. Readout: caption 11px 500 uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing, hero total 38px 600 yellow, rows 11.5px labels with 12.5px 600 values right-aligned in their series colors. Footer 11.5px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow y 56, title y 98, subtitle y 126. Plot from x 84 to 900, y 176 to 486. Readout panel 250 x 148 px anchored 8px inside the plot's top-left corner (over an empty region of the data) with a 3px yellow bar on its left edge. Footer rule at y 546; source left and a key ("Shaded: ... · Dashed: ...") right at y 570.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines at round steps, 1px #2A2A2A dotted (2 on 4), the zero line solid. No axis lines. Hourly ticks below the plot: 6px #8A8780 minor ticks every hour, 10px #E8E6E1 major ticks every 3 hours with labels centered 27px below the plot.

Marks:
- Line chart: first series 2px #F5C518 with straight segments and 4 x 4 px square markers on every nonzero point; second series 1.8px #EDE3C8 dashed 5 on 3, no markers. Shade between them only where the first is above, clipping the shading exactly at the crossing points. Label the first series at its peak ("Departures, peak 2,480 at 11:00") and the second near its descending tail; label the shaded gap with an 11px 600 uppercase tag and a 1px yellow leader.
- Bar chart: paired thin bars per hour (yellow solid for the first series, cream outlined 1.5px for the second, 2px apart), square ends, with the same hourly ticks and readout panel.

Avoid: smoothing, glows, rounded corners, gradients, more than two colors for data, a legend box separate from the readout.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the readout totals equal the sums of the data, the shading stops exactly at each crossing, and the panel and labels do not cover any data.
