Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Enrollment Stack" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a tidy dark admissions dashboard. Calm navy, four clear colors, bold totals and nothing extra.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0F1B2D (dark navy). Gridlines: #22314A; the zero line #3A4B66.
- Series, bottom of the stack to top: #4A90E2 (sky blue), #2BB3A3 (teal), #F2A541 (amber), #B69CE8 (lilac). Keep this order so sky blue and lilac are never adjacent.
- Primary text: #F1F5FA. Secondary text: #94A3B8. In-segment labels in navy #0F1B2D.

Typography (Google Fonts): Public Sans only, with tabular figures.
- Eyebrow 600 11px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in #94A3B8; title 700 26px #F1F5FA with -0.3px letter-spacing, stating the finding; subtitle 15px #94A3B8 with measure, unit (and an asterisk pointing to the footnote) and years.
- Totals 800 13px white; tick labels 12px; category labels 13px (the latest one 700 white); legend chips 600 13px; in-segment values 600 11px navy; footnote and source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px left margin. Eyebrow at y 44, title at y 82, subtitle at y 108.
- Legend chips at y 124 (26px tall, fully rounded, radius 13): each chip filled with its color at 16% opacity, a 1px outline of the color at 60% opacity, a 5px color dot and the name in white. List them top of stack first so the legend reads in the same order as the stacks.
- Plot from x 96 to 904, baseline y 486, top y 196.
- Footnote at y 552 explaining the unit (e.g. "* Full-time equivalents: each part-time student counts as half."), source at y 574.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines. Horizontal gridlines every round step, 1px #22314A, with the zero line in #3A4B66. Thousands separators on tick labels.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked columns 50px wide with 2px rounded corners on every segment and a 2px navy gap between segments. Bold total centered 10px above each stack. On the latest column only, print each segment's value centered inside it in navy.
- Line chart: a stacked area chart with the same colors, 2px navy lines between layers, the total as a 2px #F1F5FA line on top with a bold total label on the first and last points, and segment values printed inside the latest edge of each layer.

Avoid: gradients, glows, 3D, thick borders, a boxed legend, and any segment gap that isn't the navy background color.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the totals equal the sum of their segments, the headline growth figure matches the first and last totals, segment gaps are visible, and in-segment labels fit inside their segments.
