Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Elevator Trips" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a lift-lobby control panel. Steel-dark surfaces, a title plate framed by thin brushed-metal strips, and a legend that looks like lit floor-indicator buttons.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Canvas: #1B1F24. Title plate: #1F242A.
- Series in stack order from the baseline up: #B4BCC6 cool gray, #1A9483 teal, #5FB2EE sky, #F1DE8F pale yellow.
- Brushed metal: a horizontal gradient #5B636D, #9AA3AD, #6A737D, #B2BAC3, #737C86, #9AA3AD, overlaid with a 7 x 3 px stripe pattern (white 12% hairline, black 12% short hairline), with a 1px #0E1114 shadow line under each strip.
- Title #F2F4F6; subtitle #9AA3AD; brackets and their labels #C9CFD6; axis labels #7C8691 and #8C96A1; gridlines #2A3038; baseline #566069; source #6D7782.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Oxanium for all text. Title 700 28px stating the finding; subtitle 400 15px with measure, place, day and total; legend letters 700 15px; legend names 500 13px; bracket labels 600 12px uppercase with 1.2px letter-spacing; totals 500 12px (700 #F2F4F6 on the peaks); axis labels 12px.

Layout:
- Two 6px brushed-metal strips run full width at y 24 and y 132; between them the #1F242A title plate holds the title (y 76) and subtitle (y 106), 40px left margin.
- The legend sits at the top right of the chart area (y 160): each series as a 26 x 26 dark square (#111418, 3px radius) with a 1.5px border and a centered letter in the series color, followed by its name.
- Plot from x 84 to 904, y 214 to 490. Short hour labels ("08") under each bar and a small "Hour starting" note at the right.

Axes and grid:
- 1px gridlines at four even steps, #566069 baseline, y labels right-aligned 10px left of the plot. Start at zero.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked bars about 66% of each band with square corners, 1.2px dark gaps between segments, total label 7px above each stack. Bracket the busy periods along the top with 1.3px square brackets (8px legs) 30px above the tallest stack in the span, labeled "MORNING PEAK", "LUNCH", "EVENING".
- Line chart: one 2.2px line per series in the same colors with 4px square markers (like indicator lamps) and the letter of each series in a small bordered square at the line end; keep the period brackets above the lines.

Avoid: rounded bars, glossy 3D, gradients on data marks (metal is only for the frame strips), and a plain swatch legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the peak hour and total in the title match the data, the stack order matches the legend order, the brackets don't touch the totals or the legend, and the brushed strips read as metal at thumbnail size.
