Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Edge-Lit" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a clear acrylic sheet floating on steel standoffs in a dark museum room, with the chart engraved into it and lit from the edge so every groove glows. Quiet, precise and a little magical.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Room: #070B10, with a soft radial lift to #101A24 above center.
- Primary series and panel edge light: ice blue #8FD8FF.
- Second series: warm white #F4E3C3.
- Title: #E8F6FF. Secondary text (subtitle, ticks, notes): #6F8597. Source: #4E6070.
- Panel tint: #9FD6F5 at 2.5 to 7% opacity in a diagonal gradient.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Josefin Sans throughout. Title 29px 600 #E8F6FF with a soft glow (blur 3 merged under the text), stating the finding. Subtitle 16px 400 #6F8597 with 0.4px letter-spacing. Legend and end labels 15px 600 to 700 in the series color. Tick and month labels 14px #6F8597. Callout value 20px 700 with the same glow; its note 13px.

Layout:
- Panel: 880 x 530 at (40, 32), radius 10, filled with the tint, a 1.6px edge stroke in #8FD8FF (90% at the top, 25% mid, 60% at the bottom), a faint 6% white inner line, and a glowing 2px #8FD8FF strip along the top edge. A blurred black shadow (blur 9) sits offset behind it.
- Four steel standoffs 30px in from the panel corners: r 11 discs with a radial #E4EAF0 to #8C96A1 to #3A424C gradient, a 1px #1B2129 rim, a 4.5px inner ring and a small blurred shadow.
- Two faint diagonal reflection streaks across the panel (white at 5% and 3.5%).
- Title at (110, 100), subtitle at y 130, legend top right at y 164, plot from x 150 to 790 and y 196 to 500, month labels at y 528, source at y 552.

Axes and grid:
- Engraved gridlines: 1px #A9D9F2 at 10% opacity (35% for the zero line), extending 10px past the plot. Y labels like "15k" right-aligned 22px left of the plot. No axis lines or tick marks.

Marks:
- Line chart: every line is an engraved groove in four layers: a wide bloom (stroke width + 8px, 35% opacity, blur 9), an edge glow (width + 2px, 75%, blur 2.2), the core stroke (3.4px for the primary, 2.2px for the second), and a white lip at 75% opacity, 30% of the core width, shifted 0.8px up. Monotone curves. The second series is dashed 7 on 5. Markers are engraved hollows: r 5 rings (2px ice blue, room-colored fill) for the primary and 6.4px diamonds (1.4px warm white) for the second. Label each line at its end in its color, and circle the key point with an r 11 hairline ring beside a glowing value.
- Bar chart: bars as engraved outlines rather than fills: a 2px #8FD8FF stroke with the same bloom and edge glow, a 6% #8FD8FF fill, 3px corner radius; the second series in #F4E3C3 with a 7 on 5 dash; values in Josefin Sans 600 above each bar.

Effects:
- All blurs use a filter region covering the whole canvas so glows never clip.

Avoid: saturated neon colors, filled areas under the lines, heavy borders, visible axis lines, more than two glow colors, a boxed legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the grooves read as lit edges rather than plain lines, the glows are unclipped, the dashed series is still easy to follow, and the standoffs do not touch any text.
