Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Dynamo" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a 1930s power station instrument board. Machined and gleaming: dark gunmetal, a faint sunburst of rays behind the chart, brushed chrome bars with rounded caps, the leader in brass, and every row numbered in a round badge.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #1C1E21 (gunmetal). Sunburst rays: #2A2D32.
- Chrome bars: a vertical gradient #F1F3F5, #C9CDD2 at 28%, #6E7379 at 60%, #9DA2A8 at 82%, #555A60.
- Brass leader: a vertical gradient #F3DCA4, #C9A25A at 30%, #8A6A2E at 62%, #B8914C at 84%, #6E5222.
- Labels #E8E6E1 (leader) and #C4C6C9 (others); secondary text #8E9298; rules and badge rings #6E7379; brass #C9A25A for the eyebrow, leader badge, leader value and total.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Poiret One 400 for the title: 40px #E8E6E1, sentence case, stating the finding.
- Michroma 400 for everything else (it is very wide, so keep it small): eyebrow 11px uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing in brass; subtitle 12px #8E9298 with 0.6px letter-spacing; row labels 12px uppercase with 1px letter-spacing; value labels 12px (14px brass for the leader); badge numerals 10px; axis labels 10px; source and total 9px.

Layout:
- Eyebrow y 58, title baseline y 110, subtitle y 142, a 1px #6E7379 rule at y 168 from x 56 to 904.
- Rows start at y 196, 46px apart. Badge centered at x 72, row label at x 100, bars start at x 270 and 50 MW (the axis max) reaches x 820.
- A 3px chrome (#C9CDD2) spine marks the zero line from the top of the first row to the bottom of the last.
- A 1px rule at y 556, source left and a brass works total right at y 578.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical dotted gridlines (1px #34383E, 1 on 4 off) at each axis step, labels in Michroma 10px below the last row, "0 MW" at zero. No y-axis line beyond the chrome spine.
- Sunburst: thin straight rays from a point just off the left edge (x -40, y 380), every 4 degrees from -58 to +58, 0.8px (every third ray 1.4px), in #2A2D32, masked out of the header area above the rule.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars 24px tall with a square left end at the spine and a fully rounded right cap (radius 12). Fill with the chrome gradient; the leader uses the brass gradient. Overlay a brushed-metal texture: a 6px repeating pattern with a 1px white line at 7% opacity and a 1px black line at 6% opacity. Value label 12px to the right of each cap. Each row starts with a round badge: a r 13 1.5px ring (#6E7379, brass for the leader) around a r 9.5 disc (#2B2E33, brass for the leader) holding the rank number.
- Line chart: a 4px line stroked with the chrome gradient, round caps, point markers as r 7 chrome discs, the leading series or latest point in brass, same sunburst behind and the same numbered badges used as a ranked legend.

Avoid: flat gray bars, bright colors, heavy gridlines, square bar ends, and letting the sunburst overpower the bars (keep rays barely above the background).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the chrome gradient reads as polished metal, only the leader is brass, Michroma labels fit without colliding with the bars, and the stated lead and total match the data.
