Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Drill Core" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a geologist's downhole log sheet. White paper, black frames, a depth axis that runs downward, a narrow lithology strip filled with standard geologic patterns and one charcoal trace wiggling across the main track. Technical, dense and exact, with pale gold marking the intervals that matter.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF.
- Ink, frames and the data trace: #2B2B2B. Secondary text: #6B6B66.
- Major gridlines #D6D6D0; minor gridlines #ECECE8.
- Highlight intervals: fill #F3E2A6 (pale gold) with 1px #C9A227 edges top and bottom; the interval labels in #8A6A12.
- Pattern grounds: sandstone #F4EBC8, limestone #DDE6EC, shale #E3E6DD, each overprinted in #2B2B2B.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Asap Condensed for everything. Title 700 30px stating the headline finding; subtitle 400 16px #6B6B66 with measure, unit and range.
- A header line under a 1.5px full-width rule: record id 700 12px with 1.5px letter-spacing, then metadata fields 500 12px #6B6B66 with 1.2px letter-spacing.
- Column headers 600 11px uppercase, 1px letter-spacing, #6B6B66. Axis numbers 500 to 600 12px #2B2B2B. Interval labels 700 14px #8A6A12. Key labels 500 14px. Hero readout 700 40px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Log columns side by side from left: a depth label column (right-aligned numbers at x 92), a 38px lithology strip, a wide main data track (x 170 to 640), a 120px "INTERCEPT" column, then a key column at x 784 with lithology swatches (34 x 22), the line and highlight legend, a hairline, and a "BEST INTERCEPT" readout.
- Every column shares one vertical depth scale (0 at top, increasing downward) from y 150 to 540. Frames are 1px #2B2B2B rectangles.
- Footer hairline #D6D6D0 at y 556, "Source: ..." left, "DOWNHOLE LOG SHEET 1 OF 1" right in 600 11px uppercase.

Axes and grid:
- Depth axis: ticks every 10 m (6px at 20 m majors, 3px minors) with labels every 20 m. Horizontal gridlines across the main track at every 10 m, 0.8px, majors #D6D6D0, minors #ECECE8.
- Value axis runs along the top of the track (0 to 10, labels every 2) with a vertical gridline per unit, 1px #D6D6D0 at 0, 5 and 10, 0.8px #ECECE8 otherwise. Unit label "Au g/t" above the right end.

Marks:
- Line chart: the series is drawn vertically: value on x, depth (or the ordered category) on y going down. A 1.5px #2B2B2B polyline with round joins through each sample midpoint, plus a very light fill of #2B2B2B at 7% opacity between the trace and the zero line. Highlight intervals are full-width #F3E2A6 bands behind the trace, spanning the track and the intercept column, with the composite value printed centered in the intercept column ("12 m @ 7.65 g/t") and the depth range in 11px #6B6B66 just below the band.
- Bar chart: horizontal bars growing rightward from the zero edge of the track, one per depth interval, filled #2B2B2B at 80% with no gaps between consecutive intervals (a histogram-like log), highlighted intervals on a #F3E2A6 band with the same intercept labels.

Lithology strip:
- Patterns in userSpaceOnUse tiles: sandstone = 0.9px dots on an 8px offset grid; limestone = brick courses (16 x 8 tile, 0.8px lines with offset vertical joints); shale = short 0.9px horizontal dashes in staggered rows (12 x 6 tile). A 0.8px line at each unit contact and a 1px frame.

Avoid: color on the data trace, rounded corners, drop shadows, gradients, a horizontal time-style axis, and more than one highlight color.

When you're done, render the chart and check that depth increases downward in every column, the lithology contacts line up with the depth ticks, each highlight band's printed composite equals the mean of its samples, and no interval label collides with a band edge.
