Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Drawing Count" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a sheet of punched animation paper on a lightbox, marked up by an animator in colored pencil. Hand-drawn but disciplined: straight-ish lines, even hatching, a single red pencil note.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Paper: #FBF7EC for the whole canvas.
- Peg holes: fill #DCD3BF with a 1px #C8BEA7 edge.
- Blue pencil (outlines, light hatching, small labels): #3A6EA5.
- Key drawing blue (the dense base segment and the stroke on its top edge): #1F4B7C.
- Graphite blue (title, value labels, baseline): #24466B.
- Faint gridlines: #9DB4CC. Red pencil (the one highlight and the average line): #C4553D.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Kalam throughout, never another font. Title 700, 28px, #24466B, right aligned in two lines, stating the finding. Subtitle 400, 15px, #3A6EA5.
- Production slug at top-left: the project name 700 17px and a scene line 400 14px, both #3A6EA5.
- Axis labels 400, 15px #3A6EA5. Value labels 700, 15px #24466B above each bar (19px red for the highlight). Legend 400, 15px #24466B. Source and footer 13px #3A6EA5.

Layout:
- Three peg holes centered along the top edge (center y 26): a 9px radius round hole in the middle and two 44 x 11 px oblong slots (fully rounded) 150px to either side.
- Production slug at top-left (x 56, y 72), title block at top-right (right edge x 904), legend under the slug at y 118 to 132.
- Plot from x 96 to 904, baseline y 486, top of scale y 168. A small rotated "drawings" axis title at x 32.
- Footer at y 580: "Source: ..." left and a total ("756 drawings across 12 shots") right.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines except a 1.6px #24466B baseline drawn as a slightly wobbly pencil stroke.
- Gridlines every 40 units as 0.9px #9DB4CC dashed (6 on, 5 off) pencil strokes with a very slight wobble (quadratic curve with a midpoint jitter of about 1px).
- Category labels are shot numbers ("010", "020"...) set 700 14px inside hand-drawn pencil circles (radius 18, 1.2px stroke, drawn as a jittered polygon of about 25 points whose end overshoots the start slightly, like a quick pencil loop). The highlighted category's circle and number are red.

Marks:
- Bar chart: square-ended bars 38px wide (about 57% of the band). Two stacked segments: the base segment (key drawings) filled with a dense hatch (a 4px pattern of #1F4B7C at 78% with 1.4px lines, rotated -38 degrees) and topped by a 1.6px #1F4B7C pencil line; the upper segment (inbetweens) filled with an open hatch (7px pattern, 1.6px #3A6EA5 lines at 85% opacity, rotated -38 degrees) on bare paper. Outline each whole bar in 1.5px #3A6EA5 with wobbly, open-bottomed pencil strokes, and run the bar group through a subtle displacement (fractal noise at base frequency 0.9, displacement scale 1.6) so edges look drawn.
- Line chart: a 2px #3A6EA5 wobbly pencil line with open hand-drawn circles (radius 5) at each point, the area below filled with the open hatch; a second series in #1F4B7C with the dense hatch swatch in the legend. Same pencil circles around category labels.
- An average or target line in red pencil: 1.4px #C4553D dashed (10 on, 6 off), labeled in 700 15px red ("scene avg 63") above the line in a clear gap between bars.

Avoid: solid flat fills, gradients, drop shadows, perfectly straight vector lines, more than one red element group, and any typeface other than Kalam.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the hatching reads as two distinct densities at thumbnail size, the peg holes sit centered on the top edge, no label collides with a bar or the average line, and the multiplier in the title matches the data.
