Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Donor Retention" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a friendly fundraising dashboard. Warm, clear and a little elegant: a pale blush page, a rounded white chart card, a soft pink summary tile with one big number, and a family of raspberry lines where the newest is the hero.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FDF2F4 (pale blush). Chart card: #FFFFFF. Summary tile: #FBE4EB with #F2C6D5 dividers.
- Hero series and accents: #BE185D (raspberry).
- Older series step lighter in even increments: #C73670, #D25282, #DC6E96, #E78BAB, #EFA7C0, #F5C2D3 (oldest).
- Ink #3B1A28 for titles and emphasis; secondary text #8A6B78; gridlines #F3DDE4.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- DM Serif Text: title 32px ink stating the finding; the tile's hero number 64px raspberry; the tile's secondary number 34px ink.
- DM Sans for everything else: eyebrow 700 11px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in raspberry; subtitle 15px #8A6B78 with measure and unit; axis labels 12px (500; the final category 700 ink); direct labels 700 15px raspberry for the hero and 500 12px #8A6B78 for the oldest; tile labels 700 10.5px uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; body 13 to 14px.

Layout:
- 48px margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at 92, subtitle at 122.
- A white card from x 48, y 148, 620 x 400 with an 18px corner radius holding the plot (x 104 to 560, y 184 to 480) and a key row at the bottom.
- A summary tile to the right (x 692, 220 wide, same height and radius): label, hero number, what it refers to, a divider, a pill (86 x 30, fully rounded, raspberry fill, white 700 14px text) showing the change, one line of comparison, another divider, a second label and number.
- "Source: ..." in 11px under the card.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal and vertical 1px #F3DDE4 gridlines at every tick, no axis lines. Percent labels on the left at 0, 25, 50, 75, 100%.

Marks:
- Line chart: every older series a 1.6px line in its step color; the newest series 4px #BE185D, drawn on top, with 4px dots ringed in 2px white at each point and a 6px dot at the end. Label only the newest (bold, raspberry) and the oldest (muted) at their ends, plus the newest's first notable value. Under the plot, a key row: "COHORT" then short 18 x 3 swatches with years, the newest thicker and bold.
- Bar chart: grouped or small vertical bars with 4px rounded tops, older groups in the lighter steps and the newest in #BE185D, with the same white card, tile and key row.

Avoid: rainbow colors, a legend box, dark backgrounds, drop shadows, 3D and more than one saturated series.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the older lines read as a smooth light-to-dark ramp, the hero line sits on top, end labels do not collide, and the tile's numbers match the data.
