Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Dock to Stock" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a section page from a dark industrial receiving report. Charcoal, hazard yellow and monospaced readouts, with tall condensed headlines like stenciled signage.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #1A1C1E. Chart panel: #222528. Gridlines: #2E3236; zero line #4B5057.
- Hazard yellow: #EAB308 (the primary series, hazard stripes, event tags, the eyebrow). Hazard black: #0A0A0A.
- Secondary series and band: #9CA3AF. Headline and callout text: #F3F4F6. Secondary text: #8B9096.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Teko for the section number (600, 54px, yellow) and the title (600, 44px, uppercase, 0.5px letter-spacing, #F3F4F6).
- Roboto Mono for everything else: eyebrow 500, 12px uppercase yellow with 1px letter-spacing and slashes between parts; subtitle 400, 13px #8B9096; tick and date labels 11px; series and event labels 700, 11 to 12px; callout 700 12px white plus an 11px gray line; footer 11px.

Layout:
- Top left: a hazard tab 112 x 78 touching the top edge, filled with -45 degree yellow and black stripes (11px each), with an 88 x 54 black inner box holding the two-digit section number.
- The eyebrow at y 34 and the title at y 76, both starting 20px right of the tab; subtitle at y 104.
- A #222528 panel from y 130 to 524 across the full content width (40px margins); plot from x 88 to 820 inside it. End labels for each series just right of the plot.
- Footer: source at left, a bold white computed fact in caps at right, and a 4px hazard stripe band beneath.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #2E3236 gridlines with unit-suffixed labels ("8h") right-aligned left of the plot.
- A target or SLA as a 1px yellow dotted line (2 on, 4 off) at 55% opacity, labeled in yellow caps just above its left end.
- Date labels ("SEP 01") every two weeks, 56px below the baseline so the event tags fit between.
- Event days (inbound surges) marked by 1px yellow dashed (3, 3) verticals at 35% opacity and solid #EAB308 tags 76 x 22 under the baseline with the event size in black 700 mono ("610 PLT").

Marks:
- Line chart: the primary measure (median) as a thick 4.5px #EAB308 line with round joins; the upper measure (90th percentile) as a 1.5px #9CA3AF line above it, with the gap between them filled #9CA3AF at 8% opacity. The peak point as an r 6 page-colored dot with a 3px yellow ring and a white leader rising to a two-line mono callout.
- Bar chart: square-cornered #EAB308 bars for the primary measure with a 1.5px #9CA3AF tick (a short horizontal cap) marking the upper measure on each bar; event days get the same yellow tag under the baseline.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, glows, proportional fonts for labels, more than one bright color, and a legend box (label the lines at their ends).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the stripes are crisp, the event tags do not overlap each other or the date labels, the callout does not cross the lines' labels, and the footer count matches the data.
