Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Division Record" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the division list in a parliamentary journal. An ivory ledger with fine black rules, a serif face, and results you can audit line by line.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FAF6EA (ivory). Ink: #1B1A17. Secondary text: #6B665C. Row hairlines: #CFC7B4.
- First category (ayes, yes, for): #23503A deep green. Second (noes, no, against): #C66B55 muted red. Third (abstentions, other): #B3ADA0 warm gray. Negative results in text use #9A4130.

Typography (Google Fonts): Source Serif 4 throughout (400, 600, 700, italics).
- Eyebrow: 11.5px 600 uppercase, 2px letter-spacing, #6B665C. Title: 27px 700 stating the finding. Subtitle: 15px #6B665C naming the measure.
- Column headers: 10.5px 600 uppercase, 1.2 to 1.6px letter-spacing, #6B665C.
- Row labels: bill number 14px 700, short title 14.5px 400. Segment percentages 12.5px 600 in white. Results 14px italic; tallies 14px with tabular figures.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow, title, subtitle, then a small legend of 12px squares with 13px 600 labels.
- A ledger table: left column for the ID (x = 56) and name (x = 112); bars from x = 330, 420px wide; a result column at x = 768; tallies right-aligned at x = 904.
- The table header sits between a 1.4px ink rule and a 0.6px rule 3px below it (a double rule). Rows are 40px apart with 0.7px #CFC7B4 hairlines between them, closed by a 1.4px ink rule.
- Italic 13px note under the table defining the rule for the result, then source on the left and an italic folio on the right.

Axes and grid:
- Only three scale labels above the bars: 0%, 50% (600, ink) and 100%.
- A 1.2px ink 50 percent line dashed 3 on, 3 off, running from the header through every row.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal 100% stacked bars, 22px tall, square corners, no gaps between segments, in the order green, red, gray. Percentages inside: the first segment's label 7px from its left edge, the second's 7px from its right edge; skip labels on segments narrower than 34px.
- Line chart: the share for the first category over time as a 2.5px #23503A line with 4px dots, the second category as a 2.5px #C66B55 line with hollow 4px dots, over faint #CFC7B4 horizontal rules at 25% steps, the 50% rule in 1.2px dashed ink, and direct labels at the line ends.
- Each row ends with its outcome in words ("Carried" in ink, "Lost" in #9A4130 600) and its raw counts as "131–52–11".

Avoid: rounded bars, gradients, shadows, bright party colors, gridlines inside the bars, and a chart without the raw counts.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each row's segments sum to 100%, the result words follow from the counts, the 50 percent line is exactly centered, and nothing in the result and tally columns touches.
