Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Dive Profile" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a dive computer's logbook export. Water that darkens with depth, a single bright profile line hanging down from the surface, monospaced instrument labels and one warm amber highlight.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Above the surface line: #040F1E. The plot area from the surface line down: a vertical gradient from #123A5C at the surface to #040F1E at the bottom of the canvas.
- Profile line #FFFFFF, with an area between it and the surface filled white from 2% to 12% opacity going down.
- Surface line, chips and eyebrow #6FD3F2. Highlight band #F6C66B (28% fill, 1px stroke).
- Primary text #E4EEF6; secondary text #8AA3BA; gridlines white at 10% opacity.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Red Hat Display 700 32px for the title, stating the finding.
- Red Hat Mono for everything else: eyebrow 500 12.5px uppercase with 1.5px letter-spacing; subtitle 400 13px; axis labels 12px ("5 m", "12′"); small caps labels 600 11px with 1px letter-spacing; callouts 600 12 to 13px; source 11.5px.

Layout:
- 48px side margins. Eyebrow y 54, title y 94, subtitle y 120. A row of value chips at y 156 to 180, then the surface line at y 228 and the plot to y 512, x 86 to 900. Axis labels below at +22, a right-aligned axis title at +42, source row at y 580.

Axes and grid:
- The y axis is inverted: 0 at the top (the surface), depth increasing downward. 1.5px cyan surface line labeled "SURFACE" at its right end. Faint gridlines every 5 units, labeled left of the plot.
- No second y axis. A second measure (such as temperature) goes in a row of 34 x 24 outlined chips (4px radius, 1px cyan at 60%) above the plot, each linked to its x position by a dotted cyan leader at 35%.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 3px white polyline with round joins. Mark the extreme with a 5px white dot and a 1px white elbow leader to a label "MAX 24.6 m at 8′". Shade a flat hold segment with the amber band and label it via a 1px amber elbow leader. Bracket a duration below the line with a 1px secondary-colored bracket and a label on top.
- Bar chart: bars hang down from the surface line (the baseline is at the top), 60% of the band, white at 85% with square ends, one highlighted bar in amber; value labels below each bar in Red Hat Mono 600 12px.

Avoid: a right-hand axis, rainbow depth colors, glows, rounded bubbly fonts, heavy frames.

When you're done, render the chart and check that depth increases downward, leaders don't cross labels, and the numbers in the title and callouts match the data.
