Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Distribution Poster" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a clean, dark data poster about a distribution. Gapless histogram bins that brighten as they get taller, a smooth density curve traced over them, a warm median line and precise mono numerals.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #1E2124 (charcoal).
- Bins: a sequential ramp interpolated in RGB from #2F6F73 (dusty teal, shortest bins) to #5EF2E6 (bright aqua, tallest bin) by each bin's height relative to the tallest.
- Median: #FFB38A (warm peach).
- Density curve, baseline, major ticks, main text: #EDEFF0. Secondary text and minor ticks: #8E9599. Gridlines: #2E3337.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Sora for the title (700, 32px, -0.6px letter-spacing, stating the finding, e.g. the IQR range), deck 15px 400 #8E9599 (count, measure, bin width), median label 13px 600 peach, caption pointers 12.5px 600 plus 12px 400, axis title 10.5px 600 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing, source 12px.
- JetBrains Mono for numbers: bin values 10px 400 #8E9599 centered 6px above each bin (the tallest bin 700 aqua), axis labels 11px, IQR label 12px 700 with 2px letter-spacing, quartile values 11px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Title baseline at y 70, deck at y 100.
- Plot from x 88 to 904, baseline at y 500, leaving room above the bars for the IQR bracket (y 150) and the median label (y 186).

Axes and grid:
- Three faint 1px #2E3337 horizontal gridlines with mono labels on the left; no y-axis line.
- A 1.2px #EDEFF0 baseline. Ticks only at bin edges: every edge gets a 4px #8E9599 tick, and edges on round values (every 15 minutes here) get an 8px #EDEFF0 tick with a mono label 24px below. Axis title right-aligned under the labels.

Marks:
- Bar chart: a histogram with no gaps. Each bin is a rectangle filled from the ramp with a 1px #1E2124 stroke, which draws the hairline between bins. Bin value labels have a 3px #1E2124 halo (paint-order stroke) so lines never cut them.
- Density curve: a 2px #EDEFF0 line at 85% opacity through the bin midpoints, lightly smoothed (weights 1, 2, 1) and drawn with a monotone cubic.
- Line chart: draw the series as the density-style 2px #EDEFF0 curve over a filled area using the same teal-to-aqua ramp as a vertical gradient (dusty teal at the baseline, aqua at the peak), with the median, IQR bracket and pointers unchanged.

Labels and annotation:
- Median: a 2px peach vertical line from above the tallest bin to the baseline, labeled "Median 41.0 min" 8px to its right. Compute quantiles by interpolating inside bins.
- IQR bracket: a 1.2px #EDEFF0 bracket at y 150 spanning Q1 to Q3 with 10px drops, "IQR" in the middle on a page-colored gap, Q1 and Q3 values at each end, and dotted (2 on, 4 off) 35% opacity verticals from the bracket down to the baseline.
- Caption pointers: an aqua elbow leader to the tallest bin with "Tallest bin" and its range and count; a thin gray leader into the long tail with a two-line caption right-aligned to the plot edge counting the items in the tail.

Avoid: gaps between bins, rounded corners, a rainbow ramp, a legend, dense gridlines, and caption text that runs past the plot edge.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the bin counts sum to the stated total, the median and IQR are computed from the data, the tallest bin is the brightest, and no label is cut by the median line or the curve.
