Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Diffraction Pattern" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a crystallography paper figure. Warm white paper, a single thin black trace, monospaced labels, a red reference strip beneath the plot and a small boxed legend. Quiet, dense and scientific.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FBFAF6 (pale warm white).
- Trace, frame, ticks and primary labels: #111111.
- Reference marks and flags: #C0392B (red).
- Secondary text: #6B675F. Faint rules: #D8D4CA.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cambo 400 30px #111111 for the title (sentence case, stating the finding) and 14px #6B675F for the figure caption at the bottom right ("Fig. 2 ...").
- Fira Mono for everything else: subtitle 13px #6B675F with measure, unit and conditions; tick labels 11.5px #6B675F; axis titles 12px #111111 (y title rotated); peak labels 11.5px #111111; legend 11px.

Layout:
- Title at x 48, y 60; subtitle 30px below. Main plot box from x 92 to 900, y 126 to 432.
- A second, shorter box (52px tall) directly under the main plot, 16px gap, sharing the x axis, holding the reference marks. Its label ("REF ...") sits at its top-left in 10.5px red.
- x tick labels and the x-axis title under the lower box only.
- Inset legend in the upper-right corner inside the main plot: 256 x 92 box, page fill, 0.8px #111111 border, three rows (trace swatch, red stick swatch, red asterisk) with 11px mono text.
- "Source: illustrative data" 11px mono at the bottom left.

Axes and grid:
- Closed plot boxes with 1px #111111 frames and no gridlines. Ticks point inward: y ticks 6px, x major ticks 7px every 10 units and minor ticks 3.5px every 2 units. Thousands separators on y labels.

Marks:
- Line chart: one 1.1px #111111 trace with round joins, sampled densely enough to show the noise. Every major peak gets its label centered 10px above the apex; nudge neighbors sideways rather than overlap. Flag an anomalous feature with a bold red asterisk and explain it in the legend.
- Bar chart: draw the bars as thin sticks, 2px wide red #C0392B for reference values or 6 to 10px wide #111111 bars for measured values, rising from a shared baseline, labels in 11.5px mono above each; keep the closed frame and inward ticks.
- Reference strip: 2px red vertical sticks rising from the lower box's baseline, heights proportional to relative intensity.

Avoid: color fills, gradients, gridlines, rounded corners, sans-serif labels, heavy strokes, and more than one accent color.

When you're done, render the chart and check that no peak label touches another label or the legend box, that the reference sticks line up exactly with the peaks above, and that the trace stays thin but visible at thumbnail size.
