Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Diameter Classes" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a stand inventory report from a forestry consultancy. Crisp, modern and practical: an off-white page, a touching histogram in pine green, a dashed target curve in wood brown and a small data table row under the axis.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FAF8F2.
- Primary bars: #2F6B3F (pine green). Bars below a threshold (here, below merchantable size): #A9CFA1 (light green).
- Target or reference curve: #8A5A2B (wood brown).
- Ink (title, baseline, labels): #1D2A21. Secondary text: #6A6F66. Gridlines and table rules: #E6E3D8.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Rethink Sans throughout. Eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in #2F6B3F; title 34px 700 with -0.6px letter-spacing in #1D2A21, stating the finding; subtitle 16px 400 #6A6F66 naming measure, unit and total; legend 14px; tick labels 13px #6A6F66; threshold label 11px 600 uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing; value row 14px 700; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 58, title at y 100, subtitle at y 130, a one-line legend at y 170 (14px square swatches, a 28px dashed sample for the curve).
- Plot from x 96 to x 884 and y 200 to y 470.
- Under the axis, a value table: a 1px #E6E3D8 rule 36px below the baseline, a row label ("Stems/ha") right-aligned left of the plot, each bin's value centered under its bar in 14px 700 (#2F6B3F for primary bars, #6A6F66 for the lighter ones), and a closing rule 72px below the baseline.
- Footer at y 580: "Source: ..." left and a method note right, 12px #6A6F66.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #E6E3D8 gridlines at round values with 13px labels; no y-axis line.
- A 1.4px #1D2A21 baseline. Bin boundaries, not bin centers, get 6px ticks and labels (5, 10, 15 ...), so the reader sees class edges; the unit ("cm") sits at the left of the tick row.
- A threshold rule where the category changes: 1px #1D2A21 vertical line from above the plot top to the baseline, with an uppercase label to its right at the top.

Marks:
- Bar chart: histogram bars that touch, separated only by a 2px page-colored seam, square corners, no labels on the bars (the value row carries them). Primary bars #2F6B3F, sub-threshold bars #A9CFA1.
- Target curve: a smooth monotone curve through the bin midpoints, 2.5px #8A5A2B dashed 7 4 with round caps, with a 3px #FAF8F2 dot ringed 1.8px #8A5A2B at each midpoint.
- Line chart: the same palette as a filled step area: a 2.5px #2F6B3F stepped line with a #2F6B3F fill at 18% opacity, the sub-threshold portion in #A9CFA1, and the dashed brown target curve on top.
- A bracket over a group of bins: 1px #1D2A21 with 8px down-ticks, labeled above in 13px 600 ("Poles: 212 vs 242 target").

Avoid: gaps wider than 2px between histogram bars, rounded corners, gradients, shadows, value labels on or above the bars, and a y-axis line.

When you're done, render the chart and check that bars touch with a clean seam, boundary labels sit exactly at bar edges, the value row lines up with bar centers, and the title's percentage is computed from the data.
