Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Degree Days" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a grower's heat-unit tracker pinned up in a nursery office. Calm, agronomic and practical: one bold leaf-green season stands out against quiet gray history, and dotted thresholds tell you what to scout for next.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #EEF2EA (pale green-gray) for the whole canvas.
- Current series (the highlighted year or group): #3F7D3A (bold leaf green), including its end label, crossing dots and date labels.
- Comparison series (prior years or context): #A3ACA0, thin. Their range label: #7C8679.
- Threshold rules and their labels: #7A5A2E (warm soil brown).
- Title ink: #1F2A1D. Secondary text and axis labels: #5E6A5A. Gridlines: #D6DDD1. Zero baseline and x ticks: #8E998A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Petrona 700 for the title, 30px, #1F2A1D, sentence case, stating the finding.
- Mukta for everything else: subtitle 16px 400 #5E6A5A (measure, unit, base and place); axis labels 13px (y) and 14px 500 (months); unit label above the y axis 12px 600 with 1.2px letter-spacing; threshold labels 12.5px with a 700 uppercase kind word ("PEST", "CROP", 1px letter-spacing), a 500 description and the value in #5E6A5A; crossing dates 13px 700 green; end label 17px 700 with the final value 13px 500 under it; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px left margin. Title baseline at y 58, subtitle at y 88. Plot from x 72 to 820 and y 150 to 520, leaving about 130px on the right for end labels.
- Source line at the bottom left, one sentence that also explains the dots.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #D6DDD1 gridlines at round steps (every 500 units), labels right-aligned 10px left of the plot. No vertical grid.
- A 1.2px #8E998A zero baseline, 6px month ticks at each month start, month names centered in each month.

Marks:
- Line chart: the current series is a 4px #3F7D3A line with round caps and joins. Each comparison series is a 1.3px #A3ACA0 line with no dots. End label for the current series right of its last point (4.5px dot), and a single range label for the comparison bundle (for example "2020–2024" with min to max values) at the bundle's middle height.
- Thresholds: horizontal dotted rules (1.4px #7A5A2E, dash 0.1 5 with round caps so they read as dots) across the full plot, each labeled at the left edge 7px above the rule. Where the current series first crosses a threshold, draw a ring marker (r 6, page-colored fill, 2.5px green stroke, with a 2.6px green center dot) and the crossing date in green 11px right and 17px below it. Interpolate the exact crossing date.
- Bar chart: slender vertical bars in #3F7D3A for the current period and #A3ACA0 for prior periods, square tops, 55% of the band. Thresholds are the same dotted brown rules with left labels; mark bars that exceed a threshold with a small green ring on the rule above them.

Avoid: filled areas, gradients, legends in a box, more than one accent color, colored comparison lines, and threshold labels that sit on top of data lines (shorten them instead).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the current series is the only green line, every threshold label clears the lines, crossing dates are interpolated and correct, and the headline percentage matches the data.
