Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Deal Tombstone" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the lucite deal toy a bank hands out after a transaction closes. A cream plaque set inside a thick, beveled clear-acrylic block, printed in oxblood and graphite ink, formal and ceremonial, with the chart sitting above an engraved deal legend.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Plaque: #F4EFE3 (cream), with a very soft radial lift to #F8F4EA at the center.
- Oxblood: #7A1F2B for the title, the inner double frame, the closing hairline, the "after" series and the deal name.
- Graphite: #3B3D40 for the "before" series, subtitle and the acquirer line.
- Lucite block: #B7C6CB, as a diagonal gradient from #E6EEF0 (top left) through #B7C6CB to #93A6AD (bottom right).
- Hairline rules and gridlines: #CDBF9F. Secondary text: #7C776C. Background outside the block: #E7E5DF.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cormorant SC for the title (600, 29px, 1.2px letter-spacing, oxblood, centered), the end value label (700, 20px) and the engraved deal names (target 700 34px with 3px letter-spacing; acquirer 600 23px with 2.5px letter-spacing).
- Cormorant Garamond italic 500 for connecting phrases ("has been acquired by", 17px) and small italic notes (14px).
- Nunito Sans for the subtitle (400, 13px, centered), axis labels (11px #7C776C), year labels (700, 11px, 1.5px letter-spacing) and small uppercase tags (700, 10 to 10.5px, 1.6 to 3px letter-spacing).

Layout:
- The acrylic block fills the canvas with a 14px margin, 14px corner radius, a soft drop shadow (blur 6, offset 4, 28% black), a white sheen fading from the top-left corner and a 2px edge stroke graded from white (top left) to #6F858D (bottom right).
- An inner step 22px inside the block: a 1.2px #7F949B outline with a dark 2.4px bevel on the top and left edges and a white 2px bevel on the bottom and right, so the plaque looks recessed.
- The cream plaque inside that, with a double oxblood frame inset 14px (1.4px outer, 0.5px inner, 5px apart).
- Everything is centered: title and subtitle at the top, the chart in the middle third, then the engraved legend: an ornament (two 68px #CDBF9F rules with an outlined oxblood diamond between), the target name, "has been acquired by", the acquirer, a second ornament and the closing month in spaced caps. Source bottom left, a small italic credit bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- Four horizontal #CDBF9F gridlines (0.6px, the bottom one 1px), dollar labels at the left in Nunito Sans 11px. No axis lines.
- Quarter labels under the plot, with a short #CDBF9F rule under each year's quarters and the year centered below in bold spaced Nunito Sans.
- A 0.8px oxblood vertical hairline at the closing date, capped with a small solid diamond, labeled "CLOSED 28 JUNE 2024" in spaced caps to its right.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight segments. Before the event a 2px graphite line with cream-filled dots (r 3, 1.4px graphite ring); after the event a 2.8px oxblood line with solid oxblood dots, the last point r 5 with its value in Cormorant SC. A dotted (2 on, 3 off) graphite rule shows the pre-event average with an italic label beneath it.
- Bar chart: slender square-cornered bars, graphite before the event and oxblood after it, with the same closing hairline between them and value labels in Cormorant SC above the last bar.

Texture and effects:
- The engraved text has a white copy 1px lower at 85% opacity behind it, like a cut in the acrylic catching light.

Avoid: saturated colors, heavy gridlines, sans-serif titles, left-aligned layout, and any real bank, fund or company names.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the bevel reads as light from the top left, the double frame is evenly inset, the closing hairline sits between the right quarters and the percentage in the title matches the data.
