Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Date Due Slip" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the paper date-due slip glued inside a library book's back cover. Pale manila card, printed stamp rows, a punched hole, and every data point pressed on by hand with a violet rubber stamp. Warm, tactile and nostalgic, but still an exact, readable chart.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Desk behind the slip: #CDBF9F. The slip itself: #F2E3BF (pale manila), with a very faint warm paper mottle (fractal noise, about 9% opacity, brown).
- Frame: a single 1.2px #B8322E red rule inset 12px from the slip edge.
- Printed stamp rows and column rules: #B9A273. Printed text ink: #3A332A. Muted printed labels: #7A6A4E.
- All data ink: #5B3A8C (violet stamp-pad ink). Nothing else uses violet.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Oswald: the "DATE DUE" header (700, 34px, 8px letter-spacing, centered, #3A332A), axis numbers (500, 14px, 1px letter-spacing), small printed captions like "WEEK" (500, 11px, 2.5px letter-spacing, uppercase) and the library name at the foot (500, 13px, 4px letter-spacing, uppercase).
- Special Elite (typewriter): the title (20px, #3A332A, stating the finding), the subtitle (13px, #7A6A4E, measure, unit and period), all stamped labels on the data (12 to 13px, violet), the form number "No. 7" and the source line (12px).

Layout:
- The slip fills the canvas with a 36px side margin and 16px top and bottom margin, 3px corner radius and a soft drop shadow (0 3px 5px, brown at 28%).
- A punched hole at top center: a 10px-radius circle filled with the desk color and a 1px #A89567 edge.
- "DATE DUE" centered under the hole, then a printed double rule across the slip (2px and 0.8px, 4px apart, ink color). Title and subtitle left-aligned beneath it.
- The foot: a 0.8px ink rule, "No. 7" at left, the library name centered, "Source: illustrative data" at right.

Axes and grid:
- The grid is the slip's printed stamp rows: full-width horizontal #B9A273 rules, 1.1px at labeled values and 0.6px at the halfway rows between them, like evenly spaced lines on a form.
- A printed vertical #B9A273 column rule (1.2px) separates a narrow left label column from the chart. Y labels sit in that column right-aligned, just above their rule. No y-axis title on the chart; the subtitle names the unit.
- X categories printed small in Oswald under the bottom rule, with short 8px tick marks, and a caption ("WEEK") in the label column.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight segments in violet built from three passes that read as one hand-inked line: 2.8px at full opacity, 1.6px offset about 0.8px at 60%, and 3.6px offset the other way at 35%, each point jittered by under half a pixel. Points are small violet dots (r 3.8). Each point carries a stamped label (its date or category) in Special Elite, rotated randomly between -6 and +6 degrees: above local peaks, below local dips, and diagonally off to the open side on rising or falling runs so it never sits on the line. The key point (peak or latest) gets a boxed stamp instead: a 100 x 40 rounded rectangle (1.8px violet, radius 3) rotated about -5 degrees, holding the date and value on two lines.
- Bar chart: bars drawn as violet stamp impressions: solid #5B3A8C at about 85% opacity with the same ink texture, square corners, about 55% of the band width, starting at zero on the bottom printed rule. The value is stamped above each bar in Special Elite, slightly rotated. The top bar gets the boxed stamp.

Texture and effects:
- Stamp ink texture on every violet element: displace it by fractal noise (base frequency 0.9, 2 octaves, displacement scale 1.6) and knock out a sparse speckle of pinholes using the noise alpha, so edges look pressed rather than printed.
- Keep the paper mottle subtle; the rows must stay crisp.

Avoid: gradients, bright colors other than the violet ink and red frame, rounded modern UI, drop shadows on data, perfectly straight uniform-weight lines, rotating labels more than 6 degrees, and a legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that no stamped label touches the line or another label, the punched hole sits above "DATE DUE" without touching it, the red frame is unbroken, and the title's numbers match the data.
