Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Data Room" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a chart as a bidder sees it inside a virtual data room during a sale process. Dark, discreet and procedural: a document index down the side, a faint confidential watermark tucked out of the data's way, one pale gold line against a dotted budget.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Main pane: #15171A (charcoal). Sidebar: #1C1F23, divided by a 1px #2A2E33 rule.
- Primary series: #E6CB8C (pale gold), with an area fill fading from 16% to 0% opacity.
- Comparison series (budget): #8C939D, dotted.
- Primary text: #E8E6E1. Secondary text: #7D838C. Gridlines and rules: #2A2E33. Active index row: #2B2820 with a 3px gold left bar.
- Watermark: white at 5% opacity.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Spectral 500 for the title (27px #E8E6E1, stating the finding); Spectral italic 400 15px for a single annotation; Spectral 600 34px with 14px letter-spacing for the watermark.
- DM Mono for everything else: project name 12px 500 gold with 2px letter-spacing; index rows 11.5px (section headings 500 in #E8E6E1, children 400 in #B9BDC3, numbers in #7D838C); breadcrumb and subtitle 11 to 11.5px gray; axis labels 11px; end values 14px 500; footers 10.5px.

Layout:
- A 222px sidebar at the left: project name, "Virtual data room", a rule, then a numbered document index (1 Financial, 1.1 Audited accounts, 1.2 ..., 2 Commercial ...) with 25px rows and the open document highlighted. A Q&A counter at the bottom.
- Main pane from x 262: a breadcrumb path to the file at the top with a small outlined "VIEW ONLY" tag at the right, then title and subtitle.
- A horizontal "CONFIDENTIAL" watermark set in the empty band between the data and the baseline (baseline 14px above the x axis), never crossing a line, area edge or label. If the data leaves no empty band, put it in the largest empty corner of the plot.
- Footer rule near the bottom with the source and document version at the left and an outlined eye icon with "Viewed by 4 bidders" at the right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #2A2E33 gridlines, y labels right-aligned in DM Mono gray; no axis lines.
- Month labels every quarter with the year in #E8E6E1 under the first month of each year, and a faint vertical rule at each year boundary.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 2.6px pale gold line with straight segments over its fading area fill, and the comparison as a 1.6px #8C939D dotted line (1.5 on, 4 off, round caps). Mark a key crossing with a hollow gold ring (r 5) and a thin dashed gold leader to a small label. End labels at the right: value in 14px gold with "Actual" beneath, budget value in gray with "Budget" beneath.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered bars in pale gold at 85% opacity, with the budget drawn as short dotted gray ticks across each bar, end-value labels in DM Mono.

Avoid: bright colors, glows, more than one accent, heavy borders, and any real company or platform names.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the watermark is barely visible, the highlighted index row matches the breadcrumb, the crossing marker sits where the lines actually cross, and nothing touches the sidebar.
