Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Daily Use" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a municipal conservation dashboard at night. Quiet, modern and direct: a wall of blue bins, one glowing aqua bin for the typical household, and a warm dashed target.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #101A2E (night blue); gridlines #1F2B44.
- Bars: #4A8FD8 (medium blue).
- Highlighted bin (median or the focal category): #44E3D4 (bright aqua) with a soft glow.
- Target / threshold line and its caption: #F2C46D (warm gold).
- Text #E6ECF5, secondary text #8D9BB3.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Onest throughout. Title 27px 700, -0.3px letter-spacing, #E6ECF5, stating the share above the target. Subtitle 14.5px #8D9BB3 with measure, unit, bin width and count. Axis labels 12.5px. Callout heads 14px 700 in their color with a 13px #E6ECF5 second line. Footer 12px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Title y 60, subtitle 88. Plot x 84 to 904, baseline y 488, top of scale y 150. Y axis unit word ("homes") above the top y label.
- Median callout to the upper left of the highlighted bin with an elbow leader; target caption to the upper right of the target line with a short arrow pointing right into the region above target.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #1F2B44 gridlines, no vertical grid. A 1px #8D9BB3 baseline with 6px ticks every 100 units, the last tick carrying the unit ("1,000 L").

Marks:
- Bar chart (histogram): bars touch, separated only by thin gaps of page color (inset 1px each side, so a 2px gap), square corners, all #4A8FD8 except the median bin in #44E3D4 with a Gaussian glow (stdDeviation 6, merged under the bar) and its count labeled above it in 15px 700 aqua. Target as a full-height 1.8px dashed (6 4) #F2C46D vertical line.
- Line chart: a 2.5px #4A8FD8 line (a frequency polygon or trend) with a light #4A8FD8 12% area below, the focal point as a 6px #44E3D4 dot with glow and label, and the same dashed gold target line with caption.

Avoid: more than one highlighted bin, gradients on bars, rounded bar tops, gaps wider than 2px, and a legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the highlighted bin really contains the median, the share above target matches the counts, the gaps between bars are thin and even, and the glow is not clipped.
