Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Cycle Time" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an engineering delivery-metrics dashboard in dark mode. Quiet graphite, a row of KPI chips, one glowing violet line, and release markers that tie the metric to what shipped.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #16181D.
- Primary series: #8B5CF6, with highlights and callout text in #C4B5FD.
- Reference (percentile) lines and labels: #CBD5E1.
- KPI chips and release tags: fill #1E2128, 1px stroke #2B2F39.
- Title #F4F4F5, secondary text #9CA3AF, dim labels #6B7280, gridlines #23262E, release ticks #3A3F4B.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Onest: title 600 30px with -0.6px letter-spacing, stating the finding; subtitle 14px #9CA3AF; chip values 600 21px (unit in 13px #9CA3AF); legend 12.5px.
- JetBrains Mono: eyebrow 500 11px uppercase with 1.2px letter-spacing after a 4px violet dot; chip labels 10px uppercase with 1px letter-spacing in #6B7280; axis labels 11px; release tags 500 10.5px; end labels 600 to 700 12 to 13px; footer 10.5px.

Layout:
- 48px margins. Eyebrow at y 44, title at y 84, subtitle at y 110.
- Three KPI chips in a row at y 132 (176 x 56, 10px radius, 12px apart): current value, change (with a small down or up triangle, value in #C4B5FD) and count. A compact legend to their right.
- Plot from x 76 to 860, y 226 to 512, leaving room on the right for reference labels. Footer at y 580: source left, a method note right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #23262E gridlines, labels like "6d" right-aligned in mono. No axis lines. Month labels in uppercase mono under the plot.
- Events (releases) as 1px #3A3F4B vertical ticks through the full plot height, each topped by an 18px tag (40px wide, 4px radius) with the version in mono.
- Reference values (P50, P85) as 1.5px #CBD5E1 dotted lines (1.5 on 5, round caps, 75% opacity) with a two-line label at the right end: bold name, then value.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 3px #8B5CF6 monotone smoothed line with round caps, a soft glow (Gaussian blur 5 merged under the stroke; filter region the full canvas), and an area fill beneath from #8B5CF6 at 30% to 0% opacity. A hollow start dot with its value, and an end dot (r 4.5 #C4B5FD inside a 9px 25% violet halo) with its value.
- Bar chart: one bar per period in #8B5CF6 at 85% opacity with 3px top corners, the latest bar in #C4B5FD, the same dotted reference lines across and release ticks between bars.

Avoid: multiple bright colors, neon on every element, heavy chip borders, and gridlines brighter than the reference lines.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the glow is not clipped, release tags do not overlap each other, KPI chip numbers match the data (including the percent change), and reference labels sit clear of the line's end label.
