Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Cut Paper" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a paper collage poster. Flat, saturated shapes cut with scissors and laid on warm white card, each one lifted by a thin shadow, with playful leaf and wave cutouts in the corners.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground: #FBF6EC (warm white card).
- Ink for text and the column tabs: #1D1B2E. Muted text: #6A6559.
- Paper colors, in this order of use: #2B3FD6 ultramarine, #23945A leaf green, #F0603F coral, #F5C518 lemon, then #3FA7D6 sky blue and #8A3E8C plum if you need more. Deep leaf #1B7A48 for one leaf cutout and for positive change labels; #C2412A for negative change labels.
- Keep leaf green and coral apart: never give them to neighbouring or crossing series.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Syne 800 for the title, 40px, sentence case, set on two lines (baselines about y 74 and y 120) because Syne runs wide. Syne 700 20px for the column tab labels.
- DM Sans for everything else: subtitle 400 16px #6A6559; series names and values 700 16px ink; numbers inside blobs 700 14px; change column 700 15px; small head "CHANGE" 700 11px with 1.5px letter-spacing; source 400 12px.

Layout:
- 48px left margin. Title and subtitle top left, the chart below from about y 180 to y 530.
- Decorations only in the corners and never touching data or text: a lemon blob with a coral sliver bleeding off the top right corner, three leaf cutouts (#23945A and #1B7A48) bleeding off the bottom left, and two layered waves (ultramarine over sky blue) along the bottom right.
- Source line at the bottom left, pushed right of the leaves.

Texture and effects:
- Every paper shape gets a drop shadow: dx 1.5, dy 2.5, blur (stdDeviation) 1.4, color #5A4A2A at 28% opacity.
- Edges look hand-cut: strip edges waver by about +/-0.8px at 8 points along their length, and dots are replaced by blobs whose radius wobbles 90 to 110% at 9 points, joined with quadratic curves.

Axes and grid:
- No y axis and no gridlines. Column positions get a dotted guide (1px ink, dash 2 5, 35% opacity).
- Category or column headers sit on slightly skewed ink paper tabs (about 82 x 30px) with warm white text.

Marks:
- Line chart: draw each series as a 13px wide paper strip with straight segments between points, one paper color per series, and a blob (radius 14) at each labeled point holding the value in white (ink on lemon). As a slope chart, name labels sit 28px outside each column and a change column on the far right shows +/- values in deep leaf or brick.
- Bar chart: bars are paper strips of the same colors with slightly wavering edges, square-ish corners, the same drop shadow, about 60% of the band; a blob at the tip holds the value.

Avoid: gradients, outlines, thin 1-2px lines for data, gridlines, perfect geometric circles, and decorations that overlap the data.

When you're done, render the chart and check that no two blobs touch, lemon marks still read against the ground thanks to the shadow and ink labels, green and coral are never neighbours, and the corner cutouts stay clear of all text.
