Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Cross-Stitch" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a homemade embroidery sampler. The chart is stitched onto cream aida cloth in cotton floss: the data as X stitches snapped to the fabric grid, the axes backstitched, the title stitched from a pixel alphabet.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Aida cloth: #F3ECDD blocks on #E9E0CD gaps, holes #C9BA9E.
- Thread 1 (first series, title numerals): #C0392B. Thread 2 (second series): #34508C. Thread 3 (title letters, border): #4E7A45.
- Backstitch and text: #6B4A33 (text at 80% for subtitles, 75% for the source). Running-stitch gridlines: #C9B89C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- The main title is not a font: stitch it cell by cell from a 5 x 7 bitmap alphabet (one X stitch per lit pixel, one blank column between letters), letters in green thread and numerals in red. Keep it short (two words, e.g. "HARVEST 2026").
- Pixelify Sans for everything else: the finding 24px 600, subtitle 16px 400, axis labels 16px, direct labels 18px 600 in their thread color, source 13px uppercase with 1px letter-spacing.

Texture:
- Aida: an 8px pattern: #E9E0CD base, a #F3ECDD rounded block (6.6px, 2.2px radius) inset 0.7px, three faint white 0.6px lines across the block for the weave, and 1.15px #C9BA9E holes at every corner.
- Fiber: an feTurbulence layer (fractalNoise, baseFrequency 0.02 0.35, 2 octaves) tinted brown at 35% opacity for streaky threads.
- Light: a radial overlay from white at 18% (upper left) to brown #5A4020 at 12% (edges).

Stitches (the heart of the style):
- Every cross-stitch fills one 8px cell: an under-leg "/" in the thread color darkened 22%, then a top leg "\" in the thread color, both 3px wide with round caps and 1px inset from the cell corners. Add a 0.8px lighter dashed line (1.1/1.1) along each leg for the twisted floss highlight (top leg lightened 50%, under-leg 20%), and a soft shadow copy of both legs in #3A2A18 at 22%, offset 0.4px right and 0.6px down.
- Backstitch: one straight 2px segment per cell edge, hole to hole, with about 0.9px gaps at each hole so the individual stitches show.

Layout:
- Everything aligns to the 8px grid. A running-stitch border (every other cell) in green two cells in from the canvas edge.
- Stitched title at the top left (six cells in), finding and subtitle below it, plot below, source at the bottom left.

Axes and grid:
- Backstitch the x and y axes in #6B4A33, with one-cell backstitch ticks. Faint running-stitch gridlines (every other cell, 1.4px #C9B89C) at each y tick. Month or category labels under one-cell vertical ticks.

Marks:
- Line chart: snap each series to the grid. For each column pick the nearest row, and when the line jumps more than one row between neighboring columns, fill the rows in between in the current column so the stitched line has no gaps. Skip cells where the series is zero on both sides. Stitch the second series after the first.
- Bar chart: fill each bar solidly with cross-stitches, leave one empty column between bars, and backstitch around each bar's outline in a darker shade of its thread.
- Direct labels: place a small stitched motif (a 7 x 5 or 7 x 6 pixel icon of the thing measured) followed by the series name and total in its thread color, near the series' peak and clear of every stitch.

Avoid: smooth vector lines, gradients on the marks, off-grid positions, dark backgrounds, and more than three thread colors plus brown.

When you're done, render the chart and zoom in: every stitch must sit exactly in a grid cell, the X legs should read as crossed thread with a highlight, and no label may touch a stitch.
