Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Crop Report" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a weekly state agricultural bulletin. Plain, trustworthy and dense in the useful way: a thin brown masthead, a chart of the season so far and a small table of this week's numbers beside it.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F7F4EC (warm off-white).
- Ink: #2B2620 for the title and table figures; #6F685C for secondary text, axis labels and notes.
- Brown rules: #6B4F2E for the 4px masthead bar, the 0.8px rules under the masthead and above the footer, the chart baseline and the table's header and total rules. Light rules and gridlines: #DDD5C4.
- Current series: #2E6B34 (field green). Prior year: #8E8A80 (warm gray). Multi-year average: #B08440 (tan), always dashed.
- Highlight: #D4A437 (wheat gold) at 22% opacity as the band behind the table's summary row.

Typography (Google Fonts): Libre Franklin throughout.
- Masthead label 12px 700 uppercase, 2.2px letter-spacing, brown; the release date on the right 12px 500 #6F685C.
- Title 26px 700, -0.3px letter-spacing, ink, stating the finding. Subtitle 15px 400 #6F685C with measure, unit and period.
- Axis labels 12px, tabular figures. Direct line labels 12 to 13px 600 to 700 in the series color.
- Table: section label 10.5px 700 uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing in brown, column heads 11px 600 #6F685C, body 13px, the current column 600 ink, other columns 400 #6F685C.

Layout:
- 48px side margins. A 4px brown bar across the top at y 36, the masthead label under it, a 0.8px brown rule, then the title and subtitle.
- Chart on the left (about 510px wide), then a 1px #DDD5C4 vertical divider, then a 220px table column on the right.
- Footer: a 0.8px brown rule near the bottom, "Source: ..." on the left in 11.5px #6F685C, a short methods note on the right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines every 5 units in 0.8px #DDD5C4; the bottom one is the 1.2px brown baseline. Y labels right-aligned 10px left of the plot, with the unit ("%") above the top label.
- X ticks 5px long in brown at a handful of dates only, labels 22px below the baseline.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight segments. Current series 3.2px green with 2.6px ivory-filled green-ringed dots at each observation; prior year 2px gray, no dots; multi-year average 2px tan dashed 6 on 4 with round caps. Label each line directly at its right end instead of a legend.
- Bar chart: square-cornered bars at about 60% of the band, the current period in green, the comparison period in gray beside it, and the multi-year average as a short tan dashed tick across each group.
- Peak callout: a 20px wide green band at 8% opacity down the peak period, the peak point enlarged (r 5.5, solid green), a 1px green leader up to a green box (3px radius) holding "PEAK: WEEK OF ..." in 10.5px 700 uppercase ivory and the value in 12.5px 500 ivory.

Table:
- One row per category with 0.6px #DDD5C4 separators, three right-aligned numeric columns (this week, last week, last year) and a summary row boxed by 1.2px brown rules with the wheat-gold band behind it, the current value in green 700.
- Two short sentences under the table stating the gap to the average (green 600) and to last year (#6F685C).

Avoid: gradients, shadows, rounded bars, bright saturated colors, legends when direct labels fit, and more than one callout.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the table's summary row equals the sum of its parts, the last value of the current line matches the table, the direct labels do not touch the divider, and the peak callout sits clear of every line.
