Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Crimson Block" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a bold condensed-type almanac page. Deep crimson ground, cream and saffron bars, huge uppercase labels; warm, graphic and dense like a well-set sports or weather annual.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #5C0A12 (deep crimson).
- Cream #FBE9D0 for last year's (comparison) bars, the headline, the category names, the bar-end ticks and the swing column.
- Saffron #FFB000 for this year's bars, their range labels, the legend entry, positive changes and the 12px top rule across the full width.
- Dusty pink #D9A9A0 for subtitle, axis numbers, column header, neutral changes and source.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Anton (400, naturally condensed) in uppercase for the headline (40px, 0.4px letter-spacing, cream, baseline y 76) and the huge category names (28px, cream).
- Barlow for everything else: subtitle 500 17px; legend 500/600 15px; range labels 500 13px saffron; swing values 600 18px cream; change figures 600 13px; column header 600 12px uppercase with 1.5px letter-spacing; axis numbers 400 14px; source 400 12px.

Layout:
- A solid saffron rule 12px thick across the very top.
- 48px left margin. Headline, then subtitle at y 104 with the legend right of it (26 x 8 px swatches).
- Twelve rows on a 34px pitch starting at y 134; category names at x 48; value scale from x 150 to 720.
- A right-hand column: the current swing right-aligned at x 866 and its change on last year right-aligned at x 900, with a small uppercase header.
- Source line across the bottom at y 586.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical gridlines every 10 units, 1px cream at 14% opacity; the zero line at 45%. Numbers with the unit symbol under the plot.

Marks:
- Bar chart: floating range bars from low to high, 9px tall, square ends. The comparison bar (cream) sits 3px below the row top, the current bar (saffron) 11px below it, so both read with a 2px gap. A small 3px cream tick (1.5px stroke) just beyond both ends of every bar. The current bar's range label ("11° to 30°", with a true minus sign for negatives) 10px after its right end.
- Line chart: two 3px lines (cream last year, saffron this year) with square 8px markers, or for ranges a pair of lines for low and high with the space between filled at 25% opacity in the series color; same huge condensed labels along the x axis in Anton 24px.

Avoid: rounded ends, gradients, glows, thin light fonts, lowercase headlines, and a boxed legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that both bars in each row are visible and separated, the swing values equal high minus low, the change figures are right, and no range label runs into the right-hand column.
