Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Contract Renewals" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a schedule page from a well-drafted commercial agreement. Quiet, exact and numbered: an ivory page, a clause-number margin, black ink data and a single burgundy accent for anything with legal consequence.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FBFAF6 (ivory) for the whole canvas.
- Ink: #1C1917 for the title, the data line, dots, value labels and the baseline.
- Burgundy: #7F1D1D for clause numbers, the running-header label, notice-period bands (fill at 9% opacity, with a 1px solid top edge and a 0.8px dotted left edge, dash 2 3) and the open circles that flag special periods.
- Secondary text: #6B645A. Rules and gridlines: #DDD7CA.

Typography (Google Fonts), lining figures everywhere (font-variant-numeric: lining-nums):
- EB Garamond: title 600 34px ink, sentence case, stating the finding; clause numbers 15px burgundy, right-aligned; peak value labels 600 20px ink; the footer note 15px italic #6B645A.
- Source Sans 3: running header 11px 600 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing; subtitle 15px #6B645A with measure, unit, entity and period; legend 13px ink; axis labels 12.5px #6B645A; year labels 12.5px 600 ink with 1px letter-spacing; band labels 11px 600 burgundy.

Layout:
- A 1px #DDD7CA vertical margin rule at x 104 running almost the full height (y 36 to 572). Left of it, clause numbers right-aligned at x 88, one per block and on the same baseline as the block: "§ 4" beside the title, "4.1" subtitle, "4.2" legend, "4.3" the chart's top gridline, "4.4" footer.
- Content starts at x 128 and ends at x 900. A running header at y 44: "SCHEDULE C" in burgundy on the left and "RENEWAL CALENDAR · PAGE 12 OF 40" in gray on the right, with a 1px rule under it at y 54.
- Title baseline about y 86, subtitle y 113, legend y 148, plot from y 196 to 470, a footer rule at y 540 and the italic source note at y 566.

Axes and grid:
- Y axis: plain numbers right-aligned 14px left of the plot, 0.8px #DDD7CA horizontal gridlines, no axis line. A 1px ink baseline.
- X axis: 5px ink ticks under the baseline at each period, single-letter month initials below, and the year in 600 ink under the first month of each year, with a 1px #DDD7CA divider between years.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 1.6px ink line with straight segments and round joins; 2.2px ink dots at each point; flagged periods (such as auto-renewals) replace the dot with an open circle r 5, ivory fill and 1.6px burgundy stroke. Label only the peaks, 11px above the point. Shade legally meaningful windows (notice periods, cure periods) as full-height burgundy bands with a short label like "Feb–May notice" inside the top-left corner.
- Bar chart: slender square-cornered ink (#1C1917) bars at about 45% of the band, with flagged bars drawn as ivory bars with a 1.6px burgundy outline; the same burgundy bands behind the relevant periods and serif value labels on the peaks only.

Labels and annotation:
- Legend row: a 28px ink line sample, a 24 x 14 burgundy band sample with its top edge, and an open burgundy circle, each followed by a plain-language label.

Avoid: color beyond ink and burgundy, gradients, shadows, rounded corners, heavy gridlines and smoothing the line.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every clause number sits on the baseline of its block, band labels fit inside their bands, open circles sit exactly on the line, and the finding in the title is true for the data.
