Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Constructivist" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a 1920s constructivist propaganda poster about industrial output. Strict two-ink palette, tilted geometry, bold uppercase type, circles and wedges that direct the eye.

Colors (use these exact values), and nothing else:
- Paper: #EFE6D2 (cream).
- Red: #C8261C for the title band, the record bar, its value box, its year label and the pointing wedge.
- Black: #141414 for every other bar, value boxes, the baseline, the stage ring and all other text.
- Gray tint: #C9BEA6 for gridlines only.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Oswald 700 uppercase for the title (44px, cream on the red band, 1px letter-spacing, stating the finding) and for the callout inside the ring (20px black with 2px letter-spacing, and the year 28px red).
- Rubik for labels: subtitle 14px 500 uppercase with 1.2px letter-spacing; value numbers 13px 700 cream inside the black boxes; category labels 12.5px 500 (700 red for the record); gridline labels 12px 500; source 11px 500 uppercase.

Layout:
- The title band is a red rectangle, 84px tall, rotated -8 degrees and running off the left edge across the top left; title text left-aligned inside it, subtitle 54px below the title in black on the paper, sharing the same rotation.
- The whole chart (baseline, gridlines, bars, boxes, category labels) is rotated -8 degrees around the left end of the baseline, near the bottom left (about x 150, y 556), so it rises to the right.
- A thick black stage ring (18px stroke, radius 74) on the right side holds the record callout ("RECORD" over the year), and a sharp red wedge runs from the ring to the record bar's value box.
- Source line bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- A 6px black baseline. Three 1.5px gray gridlines with small black labels at their left ends. No y-axis line.

Marks:
- Bar chart: square black bars, 34px wide on a 53px slot, each with a 2.5px cream outline so bars stay separate where they overlap other black shapes. The record bar is red. Above each bar sits a slanted value box (a parallelogram about 52 x 20 px with a 10px horizontal lean) in black, or red for the record, with the value centered in cream Rubik.
- Line chart: a 5px black polyline with square joins on the same tilted baseline, square 10px black markers carrying the same slanted value boxes, the record point a 16px red square; optional light gray gridlines only.

Avoid: any color beyond the four above, gradients, shadows, rounded corners, lowercase titles, and black text or boxes placed on top of the black ring.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the rotated title band stays on canvas, the wedge points at the red record mark without crossing other boxes, all value boxes are readable, and only one mark is red.
